| My horn.....right choice? In November, i bought a Conn Vintage One horn. The horn is silver plated and i play on a Bach Megatone, 1 1/2 C. I love the mouthpiece but am undecided about the horn. I do like playing on it, but don't know if i made the right choice. The think that attracted me alot are the short action valves. they feel comfortable to me. I also tried out a Bach Stad. I'm not sure if I made the right choice, or whether i made a spur of the moment decision. Suggestions, similar experiences........... _____________________________- "Blame a stuck valve. | Don't worry about it, you bought a very good trumpet. Right up there in the top rank with Bach etc. What matters is withether you're comfortable playing it and can make the 'nice noise of your choice' on it, not what brand it is. Forget the trumpet and concentrate on the noise; that's what really matters. Rich. |

| New Friend | In my experience this was the right choice (certainly better than a Bach), but it probably wouldn't have hurt you to have tried more and had someone more experienced with you to give a second opinion and allow you to hear the horns. You really ought to have been able to tell some differences in feel/blow/sound between the two as well, if you were ready for horns of this caliber. That being said, as the others have pointed out now would be the time to get practicing and enjoy the horn. |

| New Friend | Just give it some time. I recently switched to a V1 about 4 months ago and couldn't be hap but pier. It was a big switch from my Bach (37) but well worth it. I have found it to be a VERY versatile horn. I have used it on everything from 2nd on a show, principal with a wind ensemble and I am now using it to play lead with the national tour of "Hairspray." I find the V1 to have better overall intonation and enjoy the shorter throw of the valves. Also, I am able to get a much wider range of colors...from warm and round to focused and bright (without spreading at all). Just my 2 cents but I think you made an excellent choice. Oh, one other thing. I was playing a bach 3C but found it didn't suit the horn so I switched to Warburtons. Again, a switch i will never regret. My advice.....stick with it and relax. Don't try and play the horn.....let it play itself. |

| New Friend | Not to threadjack here (in fact, maybe this should go elsewhere?) but does anyone know whats happening with the V1s now that Fred Powell is no longer with Conn? Are they still every bit as good? Down the road I'll need a C, and figured I would start my search with a matching horn to my b-flat, but I don't know whats happened in Powell's absence. |

| I would really encourage you to stay with this horn for a while....but????? Many players seem to have had some issues over the mouthpiece that you have chosen for your horn? What one mouthpiece works sooooooooooooo beautifully on one instrument, FOR A FACT...doesn't always work out so well on another. Go to www.callet.com and check out what is said about choosing the right mouthpiece. E mail them...talk!!! Let them help you with a possible new choice,n'allthat jazz. (bye the way...although I loved the Vintage One that I tried at kennelly keys for only about 1/2 hour. I loved that horn with my Warburton 4vs with the #8 backbore...What a hammer! Dence, fat...but with some really nice PUNCH and projection in the upper register. (Workmanship????Humm? This horn's laq. top coat not only had a few paint sag marks. The top coat was virtually missing behind the first valve and 3rd valve. It would seem that this horn must have missed the final inspection. The valves were great...and well as the slide action. ALL IN ALL...A REALLY FRIENDLY AND BEAUTIFUL SOUNDING INSTRUMENT. |

Many people have this trait of uncertainty when they purchase some thing valuable to them. My wife has this trait and sometimes we spend hours looking at the same types of things in other stores and this is AFTER we bought the object in question. So, be happy with what you have purchased and don't spoil it by thinking that there is something better out there for there is always something better somewhere; but, this is what is better for you NOW. Good luck, Liad Bar-EL | |
