Regards,

Richard

p.s. I'm starting to get pretty excited.

I'm sending it to Charlie Melk for valve alingment and beautification. Gold plate? I don't care for silver at all. Other option is lacquer?

DON'T LACQUER THIS HORN!

The silver plate would have to be buffed out, and Benges used very thin metal anyway to get their great response. Thus, the horn would return sounding completely different, plus there's a chance the horn could be buffed all the way through a thin area trying to buff all the silver off in order to lacquer it!

This horn is in it's original silverplate, in very nice condition. If you want to beautify it, I'd strongly recommend goldplating.

To replate this vintage horn, it won't have to be buffed so hard, and you'll be able to keep the crisp detailing of the engravings. The original finish will need to be carefully buffed by an expert (no problem with your choice!!!), enough to remove all the hairline scratches in the silver . . . but not have to be buffed to remove all the silver! This will preserve the sharp detail on the engravings and stampings, thus not destroying it's vintage value . . . then re-silvered, then topped with gold.

I suspect your choice of shops can do this and make it look like it was never ever refinished at all!!!

IT WOULD END UP LOOKING GORGEOUS . . . YET ALSO RETAIN IT'S SOUND AND PLAYING CHARECTERISTICS!

Gold will never stink, and it will never require polishing. Simply rinse it down every once in a while, then pat it dry with a soft, cotton baby diaper!

Gold is the ultimate finish for this horn! The only "problem?" . . . Well, sometimes folks think it is "just" a nice colored lacquer finish!

I absolutely love my goldplated horns, and the gold plate has really endured well for me too!

PLEASE POST PHOTOS OF YOUR COOL BENGE C TRUMPET ONCE IT HAS BEEN PLATED . . . just to make us all drool!!!

Sincerely,

Tom Turner

PS: Talk to them about options where the entire horn would be disassembled in order to buff it best (and perfectly), then reassembled. You cost will be a little higher, but the horn can only look perfect this way. It will end up looking absolutely BRAND NEW!
