![]() | My new Calicchio LR1S10M My regular horn for several years has been a Calicchio 1/7 L ca.1980, and I liked it the best of many horns I've played, but I wanted one built by John Duda. I went to John and Dave, and told them that I wanted the lightest, brightest, easiest speaking horn possible, and after MUCH discussion, a lightweight, red brass 1s bell, #10 leadpipe, medium bore (.453) was decided on. I also wanted the tube rings left off, and no brace in the tuning slide, and triggers on first and third. John built me two tuning slides. One is .453 bore in the crook and has a brace, and the other is .450 in the crook and has no brace. He also built two removeable, adjustable braces for me to experiment with. It weighs 34.5 ounces. I've played it using all combinations, and the only BIG difference is the braceless .450 slide has much better volume in the upper end (such upper end as I have). This volume increase becomes larger as you go higher. Compared to my old Calicchio, this horn speaks with much less effort, and has a brilliant, sparkly sound that does not go edgey with volume. Build quality is of the best, at least as good as my Chicago Benge. It plays as well in tune as any horn I've played ( a comment on my intonation, not the horns). Best regards, John Creed Last edited by Creedscraft; 03-08-2007 at 03:08 PM. Reason: replace image |
