My New Horn I am a High School student who has being playing junk horns, since my parents where testing me to see if I was serious about playing. I had a bent up Bach Bundy and a old Holton. I just received my new horn about 4 months ago, a TR200 silver plate Bach. My parents picked it out for my B - Day, which was in December, and decided to get if for me without me even playing it to test it (A.K.A possible mistake). Well I believe my parents rushed it and didn't talk to me about a good horn since I know much more about horns then they do *my dad is a guitar person and my mom is basically nothing. Well I like playing it, even when I got my braces 4 months ago. The tone is very nice and I can play with it well. It is so far my favorite horn, but I have one question and doubt in my mind. Will this horn hinder my improvement later since it is an intermediate trumpet? Do you know any draw backs about this horn? Should I get a professional trumpet later in life, like 5 years from now since I am pretty serious about playing. I have alot of questions but I am just jittery after reading that most intermediate horns are junk like beginner horns but the only difference is a higher price and silver plating. What do you think?

Re: My New Horn Hi, It plays well and is your favourite. Your parents bought it for you with love in recognition of your sticking with it. Play it that way and don't orry about the instrument hindering your development. When the time is right (that is when you are sounding pretty darn good), I bet your parents will consult you about a better trumpet to play if you are serious about it. You got lucky in your parents there laddie. Make 'em proud! Cheers, Brian

Re: My New Horn That's the case with some horns, but the TR200 is more like a Bach Strad than it is the Bach TR300. It's similar (especially the valve section) to the Strad, except it has a two-piece bell, adjustable 3rd slide ring, and a different mouthpipe. A pretty good trumpet that you can play for years without needing an upgrade. Enjoy it!

![]() | Re: My New Horn A good trumpet is a good trumpet regardless of the label put on it. Think of "intermediate" as referring to price, not quality. There are plenty of "professional" trumpets that yours can flat-out out-play, and if you continue to develop your skills, you'll be able to out-play most professional players regardless of what you or they are playing. Enjoy your new horn! |

Re: My New Horn Hi, Barato! You are blessed! When I started, my dad bought me a new Conn Director Bb cornet. Before that...I had a used cornet that was very old. I knew more about horns than my dad, but after playing an old used cornet, I appreciated the new Conn. I played that same horn several years into adulthood. Best wishes! Lloyd
