Pedal C has a spectacular aura about
My new Prana 1 C is here!

ML and everyone...

Well, after nearly 11 months of waiting, my Prana 1 C has finally arrived from Monette. I've had it about a week now and am really starting to enjoy playing it! At first I was a little troubled because I was really wasn't sounding or feeling good on it, but a little advice from Portland and my teacher here has gotten me on the right track with it. The thing I like about it the most is the sound. I feel like I can produce any sort of color I want with it, and that's really fun!

So Manny, I was wondering what advice you have for getting used to, and then getting the most out of the Monette trumpet. I thought that since you've played just about every model at one time or another (or so it seems), you probably know the process better than anyone! I'm curious if you ever got a new one and the first day or week or so you thought, "Uh-oh, what have I done..." That's how I felt for a couple days!

A nice side note, one of my best friends and I visited the shop at the same time, ordered our horns within a week of each other and got them within a day of each other. When I unwrapped mine, we discovered that our serial numbers are consecutive! That's pretty cool, at least to me.

If you find yourself in Montana this summer, stop by the Bigfork Summer Playhouse and see the show! I'm playing in the pit for the summer. It's a summer theater company and this year the shows are Chicago, Grease, Anything Goes and Crazy for You. Stop in and say hello! (That goes for anyone, not just ML).

Anyway, I'd appreciate any advice you might have!
Jason.

Glad you're enjoying the new toy!

It's fun to get something in the mail and very cool that you have a friend to play duos with on those horns. I don't have that luxury, I'm afraid, unless a student who plays those comes by.

My advice is to, whenever you can, play in the livest place you can. The sound is resonant without being shrill and that's a nice thing to reinforce in a big room. When you don't have a big room play light and with more vibrato than usual. Get a nice, buoyant quality and remember to tongue consistently, every single note! TOOH, TOOH, TOOH... .

Enjoy!

Thanks Manny!

Fortunately I have keys to the big performance hall at school, so I've been playing in there a lot. Plus, I actually know four people with Monette horns now, and it's been really fun to play with them. Those resultant tones are pretty incredible! The opening of Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra was especially fun.

CMD,

Dave always Fedex's his horns for delivery. They've consistently been the best at getting horns to customers safe and sound. They wrap the things as tight as they can and they just don't move in the box. That's what you can expect when you get your new axe.

Thats good to know Manny thanks, i wasnt quite sure how they send horns and it would be an atrocity for one to get damaged in shipping after the long wait and everything.

There will be at least two at the Hot Springs Music Festival this summer.

Yes, I'll be there with mine. Also, Matt Sonneborn will be teaching there and he also plays one. Should be a good time.

PS If anybody out there ever has a chance to meet or get a lesson with Matt, do it! I had a lesson a few weeks ago and it was incredible! The guy knows his stuff. I'll post a review of the festival when I get back.

My other post made my location a little unclear...I actually live in Colorado (Greeley, to be precise) and between teachers here at the university and some students, there are five of us (including me) who have Monette horns. Surprising, isn't it? My little corner of Colorado is very Dave-friendly. (I think there are actually 7 horns floating around between the five of us). Considering that they've only made a little less than 2000 instruments, that seems like a lot.

The reference to Montana is because I'll be playing in a theater orchestra there this summer. Sooo, for anyone excited to hear a section of Monette trumpets in Montana, sorry! You'll have to settle for just me!

And the horn comes wrapped (tightly!) in bubble wrap surrounded by foam peanuts. The case is shipped in a seperate box.

Jason.
