My New Toy - NYTC Broadway Model by Taylor/Vayser

Well, folks, just the other day I got my new toy - a New York Trumpet Company Broadway model from Felix Vayser. Andy Taylor does the manufacturing, I believe, hence the NYTC Broadway by Taylor on the lead pipe.

I just love my California Light. It is still one of the best horns I've ever played. I didn't think anything could supplant it, but this new horn just might. It is amazing.

It is as free blowing a horn as I've ever played. It practically plays itself. At soft volumes it produces a beautiful and warm tone. It is also easier to play softer than most of my horns. However, when you light it up it will go right up into the stratosphere like nothing. It has a fairly big bell and has wonderful projection.

The valves are the best I've ever had, though this is typical of all of Felix's horns. He gets the best valve blocks!

On top of it all, it has a really cool finish with the toughest lacquer I've ever seen - super tough.

Finally, the fit and finish of the horn is fantastic. It is, like all of my NYTC horns, built as solid as a rock.

This is a fantastic horn and at $2500, it is VERY favorably priced. Here are links to the pics.

Here's a link to the catalog page with the horn.

Scroll down to the Broadway.

I don't know any specs on this axe - bore size and stuff like that. All I now so far is that the horn simply plays great! That works for me.

I can't wait to bring it to work this weekend. I've got some down time at school today, too, so I;m going to skulk off to a practice room during free periods.

FWIIW coming from me.

Nick

OK, I did some scrounging. I THINK this is a .460 bore. Felix, can you setme straight on that? I don't have my calipers with me, so I am guessing.

That's good enough for me. I like this attitude I bet that Wilmer will have few words about this.

But how will I ever be able to play a horn if I don't know the bore size.........................

Beautiful horn. Is that a flame buffed in the side of the bell?

Re: My New Toy - NYTC Broadway Model by Taylor/Vayser

Felix, that's the Lauren Bacall method for trumpet playing!

OK, SOME of you guys are too young to remember "To Have and Have Not" with Bogey and Bacall. Great line: "You now how to whistle don't you? Just put your lips together and blow!"

While on the subject I was bragging to one of my students - a nice kid, very smart in APC physics - about how I had played for the Temptations, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Ojays, Dennis DeYoung, John Denver, Sammy Davis Junior, etc (I rattled off maybe ten or fifteen names just before class). He response? He had never heard of ANY of them! He was 100% sincere! Ouch! And I tought I was gong to look cool.

Ah yes!"Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin..."

Peace!

Nick

I don't know if this helps, but the Temptations are one of my favorite bands (they were the first real concert I ever went to,) and Sammy Davis Jr is in constant rotation on my iPod. I am impressed by those names ( as well as the others) Sometimes talking to others about my musical tastes makes me feel like I am over the hill, and I am only 25!

What did you expect from someone who studies Physics? He probably doesn't know any of the current groups, either. But, that's the price we Physicists pay for having the responsibility for keeping all of the quarks moving in the proper direction.

Hey Nick!

How about a video clip with this horn and your
other ones, just so we can hear the difference?
