mystery horn?? (Canadian Brass Getzen perhaps?)

Hey all. I found this horn at work today and I have no idea what it is. (well I have an idea) the only markings on it are "Canadian Brass". The valves are (I believe) getzen valves. The horn was found in a Getzen case. So I am led to believe that it's a getzen but does anyone know the history behind these "Canadian Brass" getzens?

I think Getzen took over distribution of Canadian Brass in 1995.

Re: mystery horn?? (Canadian Brass Getzen perhaps?)

The Allied-Getzen CB trumpet is basically an Eterna, and I believe sold in an Eterna case or bag. If it was made after the Getzen family regained the company, it very likely has the better valves, as some time after 1991 and before 1995, Getzen quit using the Monel valves (they didn't like the valves...the metal doesn't stay so hard after the heat treating process). I think you have a Getzen distributed horn. Check the numbers. Looks good. Conbratulations.

Re: mystery horn?? (Canadian Brass Getzen perhaps?)

One last note. After around 1997, I think the Canadian Brass began using and marketing a Yamaha built line of brass. I doubt, if it's original anyway, the Yamaha model would be in a Getzen case. It's a fine instrument either way. The Canadian Brass are going to use good instruments. Check the numbers and let us know.

All right then. I received a response from Getzen in case anyone else was curious.

The model is CB10-GL, from 1994. It is gold lacquer finish. Canadian Brass Bb Trumpet. The Getzen Co. made the Canadian Brass line from approx. 1991-1994-5. The CB line was designed by and for the Canadian Brass group. It is a medium large bore. .460". Has a yellow brass bell. In 1994 MSRP was US$1395.00.

FYI

Before they played the Getzens the Canadian Brass all played gold plated Yamaha instruments that had been fine tuned by Schilke. in fact the tuba had Schilke on the bell. only one I've ever seen

I didn't know that one. I think I'd just as soon have a Schilke fine tuned by Schilke. Nothing against Yamaha, just never drove one.

yep that's what Ronald Romm told me. You know I thought the same thing at the time. Why not just have a Schilke?

Re: mystery horn?? (Canadian Brass Getzen perhaps?)

Actually when I was teaching I tried out a lot of the student models of various Yamaha instruments, but never their quality ones. I understand they have some nice horns to offer. I remember when the "motorcycle" brands were not well accepted, but a fine instrument can come from virtually anywhere. I have a Suzuki mandolin I bought in '75. It's a great looker...a strake backed "tater bug" style body.
