It is well built and consistent. I have never played or heard of a bad one. It is just one of 20 or 30 other horns in that range. You will get NO information that will help or hurt your decision. In that price range only personal preference counts. YOU need to get your hands on everything in that price range (also non-Yamaha trumpets). There is soooooo much diversity that it would be a shame if you practiced brand blindness! Good luck! Let us know what you do!

![]() | Re: need comments on Yamaha YTR8335GS Xeno Trumpet I found a Yamaha YTR-6335HSMV "Mike Vax" for $800 brand new, and I love the horn. I can't imagine the 8335GS. My valves are a little sensitve (gripping the horn can cause them to seize just a little), but overall it's a wonderful horn and I'm very impressed with the quality of Yamaha instrument. Take rowuk's advice though, because I know what it's like to have your heart set on a horn. Try everything you can get your hands on and then make your decision. I've never played the 8335GS, but I'm sure it's probably a wonderful horn to play. Oh yeah, another thing about my mike vax: the intonation isn't quite what I would want, and I'm not sure if that is an overall Yamaha thing or what, but watch the D and C# below the staff. On my mike vax they are really really really sharp. However, the D and E above C2 are great compared to my old Bach 37. |

![]() | Re: need comments on Yamaha YTR8335GS Xeno Trumpet I currently play an 8335GS and I am very satisfied with it. As with most Yamaha horns, they are all pretty consistent to each other and you don't have to try more than two to find an excellent horn. Like others said above the 8335 is a great middle of the road choice horn that is suitable for a wide variety of styles and settings. What it will come down to is your own personal preference. If you don't mind a bit of resistance than go for an 8335GS. If you want a horn that feels a little more open and free blowing for the same price then I would consider trying a large bore 8345GS or the 8335RGS. All great horns for a decent price. I just bought two horns this fall and I love them. If you've got some more cash to play around with then try the artist models like the New York, Chicago, and the Vizzutti. I've tried them all and they're all good horns. But I still like the 8335/8345 because you get a top of the line horn for around $1700.

![]() | Re: need comments on Yamaha YTR8335GS Xeno Trumpet I have had an 8335 RGM (shotblast laquer) for the last 4 years, and have absolutely loved it. I will admit, I love the V Raptor more, but that's a whole nother price range! When I bought the yammie, though, I tried Xenos in every model and finish they made at the time, and finally chose the model and finish that played best for me. I have always preffered the way Yamahas respond in laquer, and I know Bobby Shew does for his own model, too. Play everything you can get your hands on, and every variation of the model that you can, too - you'll feel the love as soon as you play the right one!

![]() | Re: need comments on Yamaha YTR8335GS Xeno Trumpet I played a Xeno only once, but it was very nice. It didn't seem to hold up to a Connstellation I am borrowing, but it was good in all registers. I couldn't seem to get the high notes as clear as with the Conn, but it was a good horn.

![]() | Re: need comments on Yamaha YTR8335GS Xeno Trumpet My 8335GS Xeno has been a fuss free friend for the past 5-6 years or so. Granted, I’m just a brass quintet, community band(s), circus outfit, wind ensemble, ex-college amateur, but it’s always served my needs. It has what I consider a pretty run-of-the-mill trumpet sound, easy low range, and the plating has held up incredibly well with daily use. Every once and awhile I get an itch to buy a different horn, but I always wind up keeping the Xeno because it has paid for itself and it does what I need it to do. Good luck with your hunt, Andy

I play at the royal marines school of junior music and play as principal. The xeno has a very vibrant and pronounced tone but still can be quite soft and almost mellancholic. It is based on a 19 th century design with some diffrences. It is a fab instruments. P.S Lady Rose is the name of my XENO | |
