I want to know what you guys think about it? is it a good find or what? He wants $400. Have any of you played on before. The horn is in good shape. Valves still move really good. Better than my new trumpet LOL.. Its still in good condition. Thanks. Sweet_Lips |

The Conn Loyalist The Conn 22B is much more in demand than the Conn 10B, and it is rare to see a Conn 22B sell for $400 on eBay. The 22B's that do sell for that much are in *excellent* condition both mechanically and cosmetically. So $400 seems a bit steep for a Conn 10B. But buying from a retailer is usually more expensive than buying from individuals, when it comes to buying trumpets or cars or anything else. Conn 10B's don't appear for sale very often, so if you have decided that you want a Conn 10B rather than some other model or make of trumpet, it might be a while before you see another one. But considering that there is less demand for that model, $400 seems rather steep. Depending on condition, I think $250 would be more reasonable.

| Re: Need Help and Info! Thanks a lot! Its not really in the best condition. I think im going to let it slide. He said that he might be getting the Conn Constellation next week. Ill just wait for that one. He said that he would let it go for 400. What do you think? Thanks again |

Most people would agree that if given the choice between a Conn New Era 10B and a Conn Connstellation for the same price, the Connstellation would be the *obvious* choice since many people say that the Connstellation was the greatest Conn ever made while most people have never heard of the Conn New Era 10B. Use the following serial number list to make sure that the Connstellation was made before 1970, the approximate year that quality of Conns began to decline significantly because the Conn Company was sold and the factory was moved to Abilene, Texas: The Conn Loyalist (But many people say that their 1970-1980 Conns are great trumpets, so a Conn should not be rejected automatically simply because it was made in those years. One must try each individual trumpet to see if its quality was good, since both good ones and bad ones came out of the factory in the 1970's.) The following gives links to the various Connstellation models that were made: The Conn Loyalist The Conn Loyalist The Conn Loyalist The Conn Loyalist The list of models with links to the individual pages is at: The Conn Loyalist Another extensive list of models is at: The Conn Loyalist The comparative quality of models is shown at: The Conn Loyalist

| Re: Need Help and Info! Finish and engraving also plays a great part in determining value. If it is the usual silver, laquer or bare brass, it will probably have nothing more than the usual engraving. I happened across a 10B in Gold plate with extensive engraving. I would expect the interest and demand for this horn to be quite a bit more due to it's wow factor. I don't know how much value would be added, as I have never seen a 10B in G.P. on the market. As for the horn itself, it's a decent player with lots of projection , definitely brighter in tone than usual. Good solo or lead horn. As stated earlier, $400 for most older Conn's in the usual finish seems on the high side. You should keep in mind other factors too. Are there any extras to be included ? Is everything present on the 10b ? One of the most easily overlooked items in regards to a 10B is a case. Peashooters are long suckers and most of the cases available won't work for the Peashooters. Finding an inexpensive case that will work for a Peashooter can be difficult, if not near impossible. There are tons of vintage horns out there. Wait for the right one before shelling out top dollar. The Constellation may just be your ticket. If not, be patient. If your not looking for a specific model, keep your eyes open. Sooner or later something will cross your path. I paid $50. for my Conn, and just $30. for my Martin Committee Cornet, and just $75.00 dollars for a Conn 10B Naked Lady tenor sax. I do spend quite a bit of my spare time looking for these horns . None of them fell into my lap. If you do the same, you'll be rewarded as well. Last edited by Toobz : 12-23-2007 at 03:24 PM. |
