![]() | Need lacquer expert help Hi all, I just got a flugel via ebay that was reported to have been "given new lacquer" It appears that lacquer was added in areas that needed it and other areas were left alone. Some areas, including the bell, have lacquer "flows" where there is a lip of lacquer that shows where the new lacquer stopped and the old lacquer starts. What I am wondering is this: In view of what R. Schilke said about lacquer (you can find this on the Schilke loyalist site) I am wondering what effect a double layer on some parts and a single layer on others has on what is admittedly a fairly nice sounding horn. If I had all the lacquer stripped and professionally redone would it be an outstanding sounding horn? Regards, Dave Taylor Flip Oakes Celebration 1964 Olds flugelhorn

The issue of laquer has no definitive answer. Some like it, some do not! Getting the horn completely redone by somebody good could end up making it sound better. If they find something not quite right (alignment, dent, gunk in the horn, red rot or similar) they can fix that too!
