Need Opinions on two Horns...

I'm looking to buy a new horn and need some opinions/reviews on a few trumpets which I had never heard about. I attended a trumpet festival and tried out many horns. Two that stood out were the Con Vintage One and the Stage One Classic.

I like being able to play all styles of music, but I do mostly play jazz and commerical stuff. The Conn Vintage One I really liked because of it's warm, centered sound (IMO ideally great for jazz soloing). My only concerns with it is if the sound could carry/resonate/play loud (for lead situations ext...) The Stage One Classic had many of the same charateristics as the Vintage One, but it did have a little more timbre to it(which would probably be great for lead playing stuff...)

I'm really leaning towards the Conn Vintage One hoping that maybe it would do just fine in a lead situation...

Can anyone give their experiences/opinions/reviews about either of these horns.. Conn Vintage One and Stage 1 Classic

Thanks for Any Help!

I have not played one in a lead situation but sounds like the one I played was very similar to yours. Very warm rich sound. Loved it. And to think I was a Conn hater up till then. Wow kind of horn.

What are the prices on the two horns. Sounds like you liked them both

Re: Need Opinions on two Horns...

I cannot say much about the Stage 1, as I have had no experience with it, but I did play a Conn Vintage 1 with the rose brass bell with a brass choir, concert band and a small jazz group and found it filled the bill for either genre. .................. Absolutely beautiful tone and it slotted well. I have played and owned a lot of pro horns over the years and this is one of the best.....a pleasure to play. I cannot comment on how it would be for lead trumpet in a swing/dance band as I do not play in that type of organization...........but as an all-around great sounding horn, you cannot beat the Conn. The one I borrowed (and now own) is the Conn Vintage One RB (rose brass) bell.

I don't know if there is anybody in the know at Conn that you could talk to, but Felix from Stage 1 is very accessable. PM him or give him a call, you won't be sorry!

He's right. Felix will tell you what's up. Any Stage 1 is going to be a great horn, and the Classic is a fantastic horn. Tell Felix exactly what you're looking for and what you want it to do and he will hook you up, and really listen to you. He's a great guy, and the horns are wonderful-I'm sure loving mine!
