New piccolo trumpet

Took it out of the box, put in the mouthpiece that came with it and gave it a blow to see what would happen:

I will come clean its a $400 chinese one.Basically a knock off of the scherzer design but with a larger bore.

The bore on the chinese one is 11.5mm
The Scherzer is 10.4mm

I have no idea if I am playing it in the correct pitch in that test, I just tuned the main slide so all the valves were in tune with each other.

I need to give it a proper test and check the tuning.
Its probably in G...

Re: New piccolo trumpet

I've been thinking about taking a gamble on one of those. Let me know how it turns out Gordon.

Thanks,

Its not as good as my normal pic and rotary trumpets do not slur as well as piston valve ones, but its a lot of plumbing for not much cash.
The mouthpiece receivers don't suit the monette trumpet shanks but they seem to fit Bach OK. My pic mouthoiece is cornet shank but it wont fit in an adaptor so I was just using the chinese oddity (marked 7c) that was in the case.

Thats a concerto by Fasch by the way, from memory, possibly not correct.

Edit: Of course of I don't want it I can probably get most of my money back on it by selling it and treat the loss as a rental charge. Its fun to do this sort of thing from time to time. Its like my cars. I have three Mercedes Benz cars but I have a longing to buy an old Lada.

Play before you pay!

Gordon, you did very well in spite of the "unique" hardware! I'd love to hear you with YOUR preferred equipment!
