![]() | A New Stage 1 NY 7 on the Way Hi Guys and Gals, Back in December, I emailed Felix Vayser of the NYTC wondering if he could build me a Bb along the lines of the old NY#7's. It was a joy to work with Felix. He got genuinely enthused and here's a picuture of what she looks like. It's a lacquer horn, with a rose brass bell, and a #7 leadpipe. The build took a bit longer than either Felix or I would like; but in real life, things rarely move in a straight line. Later next week, Tony Kadleck and some other folks will be kind enough to put her through her paces. I know my '58 K-Modified will be jealous, but so it goes. A nice thing about the timing too. Come June, I'll be beginning lessons with a fine player here in Casper: Doug Bull who used to play lots on the east coast and is now in charge of the band at Casper College. He's a real nice guy who formerly played with a ton of fine folk. So it's all worked out very nicely. New trumpet, beginning lessons after about 18 months after beginning playing again after 25 years. I know the horn won't make me a better player. Nonetheless, it will be exciting to have a modern horn that reaches back in history and tries to carry it forward. Here's a link to where you can see a photo. Just click on the small photo, and it will increase in size. The hue of the rose brass bell doesn't show up much, and Felix said he'd post some more photo's later. I don't know how to resize the original photo and post it here. So if somone knows how, please, have at it. Stage 1 NY7 Bb Trumpet Felix did mention that it plays so well, that he's going to include it as part of the Stage 1 line-up. I love history. Knowing that we all owe so much to those who did so much before we arrived on the scene. In a small way, this design hopefully does a little of that. That's one reason I relish Trumpet Master. The readiness of great players to acknowledge how beholden we are to past teachers, players, and influences. Also their readiness to do the same for players today. Manny's work with the kids in MN comes readily to mind, as does Wilmer's posts generally. Thanks to all who make Trumpet Master a special place. All the Best, Richard Oliver Last edited by Richard Oliver; 05-15-2007 at 02:24 PM. |

![]() | Re: A New Stage 1 NY 7 on the Way Richard, bring the horn down to the Rocky Mt .Trumpet Fest next Fall so everyone can see it. It is scheduled for Oct. 26 & 27 at Boulder. It would be great to get some Wyoming participation. |

![]() | Re: A New Stage 1 NY 7 on the Way Dylan, Trent, MJ, & Bill thanks! Yes, Bill. If I can make it down to Boulder that week, I'll be there. Do you know Doug Bull? He's doing the concert band at Casper College now and other things around the state. I'm sure if you got a word in edgewise up here, some would make the trek to the People's Republic of Boulder I'll do what I can, but I work retail. Nufsed. Trent, I'll give you what skinny can be given by a guy of my limited abilities after I've had her for a bit. Thanks All & Back to Arban's Interval Studies, Richard Oliver |

![]() | Re: A New Stage 1 NY 7 on the Way Max and Jerry, Thanks guys. Cool timing too. I qued up some Copland a hour or more ago on the 'puter; and as I was looking at the thread, up pops Manny and MN Orchestra playing Fanfare for the Common Man. Jerry, I was just reading some Lewis I had not gotten to. Mere Christianity I think the first 2 to 4 paragraphs are really important. Have you read the short volume The Weight of Glory and Other Essays? That was my first introduction to him. I'm pretty much still in that phase not having read his fictional works. I do hope to do right by the horn. I don't know what it is about practice I so enjoy. Even the hard days, after they are past, and reflecting back on them provides some satisfaction. Performances always leave me with a to do list. Even rehearsals too at this juncture. Good to See You All, Richard |
