![]() ![]() | New trumpet decision Hey all, I have decided to buy a good trumpet and have around $2000 to spend on a great trumpet. I have played strads and am leaning towards that. I have been looking at a trumpet called a Ransalear custom on the quality brass website. Has anyone heard of this. I am pretty excited about the prospect of a good trumpet to advance myself on and having the money together finally to get something decent. I think I might be open to used as well, i don't know.

![]() | Re: New trumpet decision If you can find a Bach that plays in tune with a sound and responce you like, then you've probably found a horn that'll work great for you, since you're already leaning that way. Try several if you can, as they tend to be inconsistant. There are lots and lots of great horns in that price range, especially if you look for used horn and you may find something you like better than the Bach. Yamaha and Schilke would be my personal other choices, and I'm sure others will have many more suggestions, but I haven't gotten to play many of the new custom and semi-custom horns that are out there (NYTC, Ecplise, etc...). As with any trumpet, I'd suggest trying it before you buy it...and play it for people with ears you trust to see what's actually getting to the audiance! Sorry, I don't know the "Ransalear" brand. Jason.

![]() ![]() | Re: New trumpet decision If I go with a used strad, are there years to avoid. I would like to make asure the union boys had there hands on it. I think I am out of my price range slightly for a new one. I saw a Flip Oakes Wild Thing on horn trader for $1800. I wouldn't have the opportunity to test drive it though due to location. It's friggin raw brass.

![]() | Re: New trumpet decision I've never heard of Ransalear either. Roy Lawler could build you a custom horn for around $1900. Hard to beat that. LAWLER TRUMPETS INC. There's lots of great horns out there, shop around and explore your options. |

![]() | Re: New trumpet decision Never heard of Ransalear. I play a Schlike S32. I played a few horns (Strad, Yamaha, King) including other Schilke's (B1 and S42) before settling on this one. What ever you do, don't buy a horn blind, Pedal C is on the money with test driving and having others listen... if you buy a horn with out playing it first, chances are good you are going to end up dissapointed in the long run. Have fun and good luck!! Mike |

![]() | Re: New trumpet decision pedal C is right on the money by saying take a friend to listen and don't forget a TUNER. Never let raw brass deter you from a good horn, you can put the finish of your choice on later. Dave

![]() | Re: New trumpet decision Ransalear are pretty interesting trumpets. They were a collaboration in the 80's between Mr. Ransalear and Warburton. Some of the trumpets were put together by Lawler. The fixed bell horns are very different in design. There is no brace between the bell and the valve casing and no brace up front....so the bell is actually fused directly to the valve section. This gives the feeling that the trumpet is very narrow.....some guys like that. This project was originally set up as a modular trumpet and the fixed bell options came later as they figured out which combination of bells and leadpipes were most popular. Make sure you get a trial period as all the horns play differently based on the bell/leadpipe selection. Great quality horns.....just make sure it is the right combo for you. |

![]() ![]() | Re: New trumpet decision Thanks guys, lots of good advice here. Now I have opened a can "o" worms over this because there are so many different trumpets in that range. I have a friend in oakville that has a Phaeton, I think I'll go try that one. Hamilton is a brutal place for anything to do with brass. There is one type of valve oil to buy, Al Cass. I usually order from the states.
