Now thats ugly, aint it great?

For everyone who has asked about how raw copper will look after some time here are some pics. This is my Stage 1 after two months.

The slide and lead pipe are sterling and still look pretty good. The brass is getting that raw color and the copper is really cool and ugly. My hands are turning a nice shade of dark green after about 20 minutes of playing. The horn definatley has some personality!

That trumpet qualifies for Vulgano status! Congratulations! I've had a couple of Schilke bells turn that color, but they were silverplated.

Re: Now thats ugly, aint it great?

You should wipe the horn down with a rag with a little fantastic on it after you play. From the way your horn in tarnishing, you have the same problem I do, acidic sweat. This is quite evident by the finger prints on the copper... touch it once, starts to tarnish.

I am a horn player by trade and growing up went through several bell flares because I was wearing through the raw metal. Once I started to wipe by bell after playing and have had the same flare for years.

I advise anyone who plays a raw brass horn to wipe the horn after playing to ensure your horn lasts for years of enjoyment.

Fantastic does a great job of breaking up the oils and grease that are left without leaving much residue. Windex is very bad, baing mostly amonia based, other degreasers such as simple green and zep leave a soapy residue which will be hard to wipe off.

Re: Now thats ugly, aint it great?

I also kinda like the way it looks, but am worried about the long term effects on the horn. I am very acidic, (have eaten through a gold mouthpiece plating), so I am seriously considering gold plating this horn. That and gold looks so sharp.

At least it looks like I practice a lot
