![]() | Old Guard Drum and Fife Corps+Bugles I just watched the Old Guard Drum and Fife Corp perform for the Pope. The Old Guard had bugles playing and they sounded chromatic. Do any of you know the details on the Bugles? I am guessing they are keyed bugles. The web site says single valve bugles. I found this web site:http://www.army.mil/fifeanddrum/bte.html that covers the new baroque trumpet gig the old guard plays. Last edited by stchasking : 04-16-2008 at 04:29 PM. |

The bugles are a 1 valve bugle in the key of Bb. The valve is located and used by the thumb of the right hand and have a trumpet shank for an easy transition for the mouthpiece...I have some of their sheet music too if you want copies and have a fax pm me and I'll see if I can fax you some.... ![]() | Re: Old Guard Drum and Fife Corps+Bugles Creedo, Do you know who builds the bugle? We have two drum and fife corps in the area but no bugles in either one. I will see if I can find a fax machine to send the samples. I am looking forward to hearing the baroque trumpets. They will show up somewhere near by. |

The US Army band only deals with Bach .... so I think it's a special order from Bach... I used to play with them while I was in the Army at Ft Myer Va. There is no etching on the front of the bell so it's really hard to say. | |

![]() | Re: Old Guard Drum and Fife Corps+Bugles I have an email into the Old Guard. I should point out that the bugles I saw have the British style bell flair like you see on bugles made in India. They have a British ceremonial sound. Not the warm focused texture we have on modern trumpets. |

| Re: Old Guard Drum and Fife Corps+Bugles I was in the Old Guard from 1995-2004 so after that or before that I really can't say what kind of deals they had... All I know is when I was in the Army, the army band purchased bach strad 37 bell ml bore and standard lead pipes as the standard for the trumpet section for Pershings Own mostly at stu's music in Westminster Maryland. The owner of Stu's, Larry, told me that the army band was a major client of his...I can't say that for sure now though... |

![]() | Re: Old Guard Drum and Fife Corps+Bugles I'll send an email to Bach and find out what they have to say. My friend and his wife were fifers in the era of Gulf War I. Their real job was NBC specialists. He is going to inquire to the Old Guard for me. He said most of the fife playing is preceded by a bugle fanfare. You all feel free to tell us about Old Guard Bugling. |

| Re: Old Guard Drum and Fife Corps+Bugles The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps plays bugles made exclusively by Kanstul Musical Instruments in Anaheim, California. One of these unique, custom made bugles was recently on display at the US Army Quartermaster Museum in Fort Lee, VA, as part of their "Band of Brothers" exhibit celebrating the rich history of the US Army Bands. As well, the US Army Band "Pershing's Own" Herald Trumpets perform exclusively on special fanfare trumpets made by Kanstul. Best regards, |
