Olds Eb trumpet

Hi, my name's Mike and I'm an Olds-aholic !!!!

I've just bought an Olds Eb/D trumpet off Ebay, it looks lovely and I can't wait to play it. I think it's one of the later ones, "Custom" if the pictures from the 77 catalog on Rouse are accurate.

Does anybody have any comments, first or second hand about these horns? Blow, mouthpiece matching...anything really !

Cheers,
Mike

Re: Olds Eb trumpet

I have an Olds Eb/D, but it's not the Custom - it's an Ambassador...

Plays pretty good in Eb, better in D. The D and E at the top of the staff are pretty flat and require alternate fingerings. I haven't found a mouthpiece I like on it yet, but I rarely play the horn. I used it in D on a Mendelssohn piece (Symphony No.5) two weeks ago and played it on a Bach 3B, which sounded nice but was tiring to play.

Re: Olds Eb trumpet

Welcome to TM, Mike! As an Olds-aholic, you'll find plenty of company here. Myself, I've fallen prey to Holton Acquisition Disorder.

I've never played an Olds Eefer, but do find myself considering one from time to time--though I need another horn right now like I need a hole in my head...
