Re: The perfect trumpet Well the most well rounded instruments for Jazz, Concert, and Orchestra that range around that price I have to say Yamaha, Schmidt if you can find one they usually have pretty good deals and the standard Bach 37.

Re: The perfect trumpet Nala, In your price range, you've lots of wonderful used professional trumpets from which to choose. The Bach 37 has a long lived reputation. I'll put my 2 cents in for what I bought a year ago on Ebay for $680. A Selmer K-Modified ML 24b. Some Jazz legends played Slemer horns. I'd like to say "many," but I don't know that that is so. I learned recently that Vincent Chicowitz who played 2nd Trumpet in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for several decades used a K when he played a Bb trumpet in the Symphony. Here's a great link from Jim Donaldson. He discusses many points to consider when buying a trumpet: http://www.dallasmusic.org/gearhead/ Good Luck and Enjoy your Search, Richard Oliver

Re: The perfect trumpet I'd have to vote for a vintage Olds Recording, snazzy to the bone, beautiful, well rounded all around horn with bullet proof valves...And you can get a NICE one for under $800.00 if you look around

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The perfect trumpet Hi Nala, welcome to TM! $1000-$2000 is a pretty big spread! There are so many great instruments in that range! I think that I can say the brand doesn't make much difference. If you get a professional Kanstul, Benge, Bach, Yamaha, Selmer, Getzen, B&S, or whatever (maybe Felix at NYTC has something in that range?), you will be able to get the job done very well. If you play test them and find a good one, none of those brands will limit you musically. I disagree with the recommendation "buy a Bach (or Yamaha), it is the standard (or a copy)", for me that is too one sided. While it is true that many pros still play Bach, we see more and more alternatives finding there way into just about every type of music. This variety of sound is good for music! |

Re: The perfect trumpet Look at the Getzen, Bach, and Yamaha. Maybe the Lawler's would be a good place to look aswell.
