Question Phaeton Trumpets

I was thinking of buying a Black oynx finish Phaeton trumpet. Does anyone have ideas on how well they perform? Or even how well of a trumpet they are? Thanks

Re: Phaeton Trumpets

Here on TM I've heard mixed reviews, but brassreview.com has some good reviews. Make sure to try one before you buy one.

Be sure to get the Anniversary Model so you'll have the gold caps to go with the gold finger buttons. Can't have anyone thinking you were too lazy to chase him far enough to grab that horn.

Re: Phaeton Trumpets

Does anyone have any pics of the anniversary model? i was thinking of getting one as well, but im having difficulty visualising the look.
Also, are the gold caps on the anniversary model heavier than the standard caps? (the standard caps are reportedly "mid-weighted")

For what it's worth please keep in mind that almost ALL of the reviews on that site are very positive. People post great things there to help rationalize paying for their new toys. I highly recommend playing them yourself first before buying. Play them side by side against your current horn as well as any other pro horns you can get your hands on...

Re: Phaeton Trumpets

Good point. and i agree 100%.
however, its harder for me to try out new horns, since i live in Jamaica, and the variety of horns around here is absolutely dreadful, and usually limited to basic student horns.

Re: Phaeton Trumpets

I just bought a Phaeton 2055 sight un-seen from Schmitt Music in Minneapolis. It sounds like exactly what I am looking for...but we'll see what it sounds like when I get it. I based my decision off of the comments here and at brass review. I can send it back if I don't like it. They have a good price @ $1500...and a yearlong payment plan with just 10% down. So I've got a new horn for $150...and $79.00 for 12 months. Works for me. I triend to get the FX1100 but they did not have one...apparently no one does. I went back and fourth over the black and the silver. Finally decided on the silver due to a few comments on brass review. I'll post an update when I have the horn in my hands and have played it a bit.
