Plating Options

Ok, as my Stage 1 is being concieved (sounds like two other trumpets have to be left in a double case for a romantic evening...............) I am trying to decide on the finish I will want. The horn will have a copper bell(little bigger than normal), Sterling Silver Lead pipe, and two slides. I've never tried a copper bell before, but I trust Felix. I want this horn to be able to sound lust and dark for legit work and nice ballads, but then scream like a banshee on lead.
I guess my question/request is for pictures and experience. PLease post a pic of your horn with Gold, Satin Gold, Brushed Gold, Scratch Laquer, Raw, and anything else that looks great. I know websites have some pics, but many of them are hard to really see.

Thank you my friends, I will post pics as this process unfolds, maybe even a sound clip..

Re: Plating Options

I don't think I'd want to plate over a sterling lead pipe or a copper bell! Why not just go with clear lacquer for the entire horn and let those tri-tone colours shine through? Keep it bright, keep it classical.

What Toots said. It'll prob be the best looking horn in the section. Which, of course, opens up a can 'o worms.

Happy Practicing,

Re: Plating Options

Deys purdy alright, but for simplicity of upkeep and long term satisfaction with a finish, ya can't beat plain ol' "bright" gold plating!!!

No polishing, no brass or tarnishing silver "smell" on your hands . . . just a drop dead gorgeous gold look!

You just rinse 'em down occasionally, then pat 'em dry with a soft cotton baby diaper (or equivalent).

My WT Bb trumpet and cornets are both bright goldplate. Here's a shot of my WT short model cornet, just before I got the mouthpiece's short shank backbore gold plated too in order to match the rest of the horn and mouthpiece. Sometimes I use this shot as my computer's "wallpaper."

My '60 Conn 6B Victor - tricolor in lacquer.

In addition to being a great playing horn, it's a real head-turner.
