GordonH has a spectacular aura about
Possibly the end of Wedgwood cornets.

I received a rather distressing letter today from Denis Wedgwood which he has asked me to pass on to anyone with an interest.

Quote:
In March at the Frankfurt Music Fair this year, I was asked to meet Chairman and bosses of Conn Selmer (Steinway). They wanted to buy one of my cornets with a view to probably producing it themselves. So we agreed I'd make one for them. It's in my works waiting for collection - and payment. From about a month ago, the director who was delegated to liaise with me seems to have disappeared - or at any rate, be out of communication. Frankly that's up to them. Fact is: the last two Wedgwood cornets ever are made. There's only me making valves and such and it's knackering and time to quit. If Conn don't want theirs and don't contact me within another week (actually I think I'd rather it be played and looked after rather than be disected in an American factory) then they're both going. I suppose they'll become collectors items. It was nice to imagine them made in a production factory at the same - or better - quality, but I'm not really a corporate man. Anyway, if you could mention this in your meanderings with fellow brassers it would be nice.
best wishes,
Denis (Weg)
Part of the problem is that many companies are not innovating at all (e.g. Schilke) or are totally price driven.
Its a pity there was not someone willing to take it on as a model in their line.

ROGERIO is an unknown quantity at this point
Gordon,

This doesn't mean he is closing shop does it?

It sounds like you have some experience with Wedgwood instruments.

Please talk to us about OVOIDS.

Can you tell the difference? This makes great sense. Why hasn't others picked up on this idea?

Very curious,

Rogerio

I tried phoning him but he is away on holiday for a week.

it does sound like he is giving up.

The difference it makes is int eh lower resistance of the instrument and improved intonation.
Its very noticeable on the cornet.
The result is increased stamina which is important in brass bands.
