pre WWII Blessing trumpet

Some one I know has a mint condition pre WWII Blessing trumpet. Does any one know what it would be worth?

It had a Rudy Muck mouth piece in the case. I guess that was a high note mouth piece.

Re: pre WWII Blessing trumpet

Jim, do you know your way around ebay? If you do an advanced search and include completed auctions, then you can compare what sold and for how much. That is the easiest way to get an idea of the value.

Yes, the Rudy Muck mouthpieces always bring good bids too. I have a 17C that I use when my lips are tired. The cushion rim is nice and the small shallow cup opens up the top end for me again for a little while.

Thank you. I'll try the ebay auctions. I didn't play the horn but I cleaned it. It has been in the case for 14 years and we are finally trying to find out a little about it. We think it was sold through the Sears catalog. I'll try to find some old Sears catalogs on the internet.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is worth very little.

Re: pre WWII Blessing trumpet

You might be surprised, I am not all that familiar with Blessing horns but I keep bumping into them. I know there are some good ones out there, they did ake some pro models. I also know Brownie played a Blessing. A lot depends on which model it is. If it is a student model, it might not be worth much except if it is pristine, there are some folks willing to spend some on it. It depends too on what you are planning to do with it, are you trying to sell it or thinking of buying it? Are you looking for a good player, if so it really doesn't matter what the maket value is if it is a good player for you.

You said it is a prewar in mint condition so I hope you would post a picture of it. The Horn-u-copia site might give you some insight also. Let me know if you are not familiar with that site and I will give you a link to it.

Thank You, Ken. I'll check Horn-U=copia.
I don't own the horn. It is in the North west and I am at St. Louis.
A friend owns it and we're trying to get a value. It is a family treasure.

Re: pre WWII Blessing trumpet

The older Blessings are superb horns. It has E.K. Blessing on it, correct?

E.K. Blessing was the valve maker for Vincent Bach in the day, if my memory isn't too hazy. His horns were solid performers, especially his "Super Artist," or the "Artist" model. Apologies if I forget the name of the model.

I played one of those old Blessings, that particular model. A student at the time got one from the help center, mint condition, for $100. The thing played superbly. Fantastic sound. A lot like an Olds Recording, honestly.

...The kid dropped it carelessly during a rehearsal, ruined it. I felt like vomiting when I heard.

Anyways, I recall there is a market, and there are buyers for these older horns, though they dont get the prices Bachs get.

It IS an artists model. Thank you for the information. I'll forward it to the owner. Yes, it says E.K. Blessing.
Jim

Heavans,
I'll send your compliment to the owner. The horn is in the closet until a grandchild is born and decides to play trumpet.

Re: pre WWII Blessing trumpet

Also, the relationship between Blessing, Rudy Muck, and Vincent Bach horns back in this time is much like Kanstul and ZeuS, Smith-Watkins today. Lot of Bach parts on their horns.

The Blessing Artist is a sleeper horn. Worth a lot more than what it goes for. $300 to maybe $800 depending on condition and whatnot.

....It is a freaking AMAZING horn, I would love to own one myself. Your friend better play that danged horn and feel lucky to own one.
