The Price Of A Kanstul 1600 I have a good friend who is looking at buying a Kanstul 1600 in brushed laquer. The horn is in near pristine condition. I actually saw nothing wrong with it in any way. He would be the third owner of the horn if he purchased it. The asking price is $1200 for the horn. Is this reasonable? I know ZIP about what these things are worth, and he will be the third owner so I actually thought $1200 was a bit high. I was thinking more in the range of $900 to $1000 Am I right on this one? This guys a good friend who sincerely came to me asking advice so I want to be able to help him in the right way... Thanks everyone Peace Matt

Re: The Price Of A Kanstul 1600 If it is in really good condition-- one thing to find out about is just how much use it has had, i.e. making sure the valves are still good even though the horn may look OK, but if it's as he says I don't think $1200 is out of line. Incidentally prices keep going up for new trumpets as we all have probably noticed. Unfortunatley these price increases haven't been done just out of capriciousness-- brass has way up for whatever reason in the last couple of years and the price of plating is skyrocketing due to tighter and tighter environmental controls. I've had word from a principle in the industry that in another few years we may well see close to doubling or more for new trumpets (yikes!). Used horns will follow so maybe we should buy as many as we can now (I like that idea but the wife isn't buying it!).

Re: The Price Of A Kanstul 1600 I know of a 1600 that I bought new in July 2005. I sold it nine months later to a friend of mine that really wanted it. It is a sweet player and mine was also in pristine condition. I don't remember what I sold it for, but it was alot more that 1000. I would recommend keeping the horn if I couldn't get at least 1500 for it. Of course, if the public could get the U of L prices on a Kanstul, then I could rethink value. My 2 cents.

Re: The Price Of A Kanstul 1600 I had a Kanstul signature series model 1504 with custom reverse leadpipe. I paid $1,200 for it and played on it for about 6 months and then sold it for $1,200. One of the best horns I've ever had, but got rid of it to get a Wild Thing.

Re: The Price Of A Kanstul 1600 A brand new one is around $1700.00 ... I'd pay $1200.00 for one in great condition. It's a fabulous horn ... I own one.

Re: The Price Of A Kanstul 1600 My experience is pretty much in line with the other posters - I bought my 1600 in brushed lacquer new for around $1600 about 2-3 years ago. I think they would be around $1700 right now brand new, so $1200 is probably not an unreasonable asking price if it truly is in pristine condition...

Re: The Price Of A Kanstul 1600 it doesn't matter how many owners the horn had, it's the condition and how it plays - $1,200 doesn't sound bad. Dave
