| Fortissimo User | It really depends on when the Jupiter was built. The first ones (older than 6, 7 years) were of very low quality. About 1998 or so the factory was retooled and improvements were noticeable, especially in the middle and upper end horns. Jupiter is generally considered to be a copy of Yamaha but by a Taiwanese firm with production facilities in mainland China. For learning purposes (the first year or two), you aren't liable to do much better than $50 provided the instrument has working valves and plays half-ways in tune. Perhaps some of the teachers on this board can comment if they've had students come across this particular model or had other experience with them. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | They are generally fine playing horns, but make sure the slides move and that there are no dents in the leadpipe. The valves have had a bad habit of wearing out quickly and getting sticky (look for discoloration) -- have found that La Tromba valve oil (the white teflon-smelling [like bananas] synthetic stuff) worked great.

![]() | Tootsall is right on the mark. The early Jupiters were of low quality. The newer ones are pretty good. Look at the valves. It they have dark splotches on them, don't buy it. Jupiter had some valve problems. Their nickel valves are much better than their monel valves.

![]() | thanks for all the info. The seller pulled it from ebay stating he just found it has a valve problem so based off that and the advice here I think this one is better left alone.
