If you want a horn that can be used for different fields of battle, look into getting a trumpet with detatchable bells. Also, have different tune slides, and valve caps for fine-tuning your desired sound, so to speak. How much money are you willing to spend on this venture? Van

4th partial? The third space C, B, Bb, A, Ab, G (1-3 fingering), Gb(1-2-3 fingering)? I always heard it called the harmonic series. Thats strange that that series would be troublesome. Normally its the 6th and especially the 5th. No matter. I will start with things that could be done with your horn for less than $1000.... Blackburn or Pilczuk Reversed leadpipe ($190 for the Blackburn and $135 for Pilczuk Rose brass or $145 for copper). Blackburn doesn't offer reversed leadpipes anymore, because they claim their intonation is already so good reversing doesnt help. Pilczuk claims their leadpipes give the best intonation, and have this big, drawn-out essay over it. I suggest getting pilczuk reversed, just because its cheaper, and reversing is supposed to help intonation even more. Rounded Tune Slide. $225 from Blackburn. If you get the Blackburn leadpipe, go ahead and get the tune slide. Of course, you could get a Xeno rounded, and have Blackburn fit the leadpipe, which would save a bit of money. Valve Alignment. Around $200. Will further improve intonation. Maybe a little. Maybe a lot. Valves are what make a trumpet, and could be the cause of your strange harmonic problem. Attaching leadpipe. Up to $100, depending on the quality of the work. Shipping. Varies.

| Forte User | NOW, if you have around $3000 to spend, you could look into the trumpet modifiers! Check this out.. http://stores.ebay.com/Harrelson-Mod...enameZl2QQtZkm He's just one who does that sort of work. If you have this amount of money, look into this. You say you just really want to tweak little problems, that youre happy, yet unhappy with your trumpet. Modifing is like getting your wife or longtime girlfriend a boob job. New, better, more exciting! Gosh, i'm comparing trumpets to women... Consider trying out the leadpipe/tune slide deal before jumping into this. You may be happy with the cheaper route. Of course, a trumpet "boob job" may be right up your alley! Van

| Forte User | Yup, I'll definitely have to agree with you there! Its just part of being human, in my opinion. Our desire to never be happy with something as it is keeps us from being mediocre, but it can also keep us from being happy. Gosh, everything has to be a double-edged sword, doesn't it? Van

![]() | The nice thing about trumpets is that they don't cost an arm and a leg. This allows more freedom to change. If you bought a $16,000 bassoon, you might not be in such a hurry. Even a custom bass trombone can be $5,000! So, playing around to find perfection isn't going to bust most people. Perhaps that is why trumpet players are always tinkering, buying, selling, and talking! Jim |

![]() | Well, in my opinion (being a ZeuS dealer and all), I will chime in and say that you will get your biggest bang for the buck by going with a ZeuS Olympus. There is one thing ZeuS has, or rather doesn't have, and that is high marketing costs which always artificially inflates the price of any commodity. 8)
