![]() | Raw Copper Anyone have a Copper bell trumpet they have not gotten laquered? I am wondering what it looks like after some time. I know raw brass gets that cool, dull color brown to it, but does copper end up brown? Green? purple?? Also, anyone have a copper bell that is gold plated? Whataya Think? |

![]() | Re: Raw Copper I bought a Calicchio flugelhorn in copper. I bought it used, so I didn't have a say in the finish. It was unlacquered, and I had it lacquered as soon as I could. Maybe if I had waited it would have developed an even brown (or even green) patina. But I couldn't handle the black palm-prints that instantly appeared on the bell every time I played it.

![]() | Re: Raw Copper Miles, did you ask Felix about it? I'm sure he'd have some idea...you getting anxious enough for that horn, yet?

![]() | Re: Raw Copper Of course I can't wait for my new baby, but I also know it will be worth the patience. Especially after playing the copper bell at the trumpet show. All I can say is ......................Dude! I have spoken to Felix about finishes briefly, but I am sure we will talk more when the time is right to get the horn done. I had a B5 a long time ago and it was a great horn. Mine was silver, not gold. I assume they do the silver over it before the gold on copper. Just wanted some insight from the trumpet master world. |

![]() | Re: Raw Copper Copper turns brown...even lacquered. For example, the OLD Conn Coperion's, 12-B's, have bells of copper "mix", and even lacquered, they brown up over time. In fact, IF they're "rosey", they've been refurbished.

![]() | Re: Raw Copper True, with the nitro-cellulose lacquer used on vintage Conns. I suspect modern lacquers will keep copper untarnished as long as the lacquer is intact.

![]() | Re: Raw Copper I have several. Conn 10A, Conn Directors (2), Getzen Copra-Temps (2). Lacquered and lacquer-removed. Not a "big-deal" ... wouldn't worry about it. If you don't like how it looks, upon oxidizing over time ... or, just naturally ageing to a fine patina ... just polish it (with any copper/metal polish). Only thing to be concerned about is verdigris (look it up), which is not likely to occur, given normal maintenance. Personally, I like all my horns to age naturally. On the other hand, there are those "anal-compulsive" about shining horns. Oh, well .... Yr Fthfl Srvnt, Robt
