Schagerl Piccolo Trumpet

I just picked up a Schagerl piccolo trumpet, the design of the Schilke P5-4. Just wanted to give it a plug on TM.

This thing is the best piccolo I've ever tried. I was at the music store where I purchsed it for 3 hours trying Schilke's (what I owned before), Yamaha, the new Bach, Kanstul...they all felt like toys compared to this great horn. It's lacquer with a very well designed trigger on the third valve slide. I'm playing it with my 1 1/2C 117 bb mtpc and the high F's and G's just fly out! The sound is amazingly deep yet very brilliant.

It's called the Schagerl Eclipse...if you're interested, find Karl Schagerl at the ITG Conference. Also, Lee Walkowich is great to work with, and you'll find him at Karl's table also.

No relation to Leigh or Eclipse in the UK. Schagerl is in Austria. The above
mentioned picc is this one...

I'm definitely going to give this one a try at ITG.

This one is very similar to the one I bought, but he's not producing the pictured model any more. The new one comes with an A and Bb slide and a removable leadpipe with two options. Also, the third valve has a great trigger assembly on it. It's a more expensive than the one in the picture, but it's worth every penny! Great sound!!!

Pardon my typo

Sorry about that. I didn't spot the typo.

I MEANT Leigh McKinney. He is one of the sponsors of this site and owns the Eclipse Trumpet company in London. He makes some AMAZING trumpets, cornets and flugels. I didn't now he had a piccolo, and apparently he still doesn't! I was beguiled by the name 'Eclipse' ascribed to your picc and I jumped to an erroneous conclusion!

I'll have to try to get away on WEdnesday and give one a go, though! I'll pack my pic mouthpiece.

Does it take a trumpet shank or a cornet shank? My Schilke uses a cornet shank, fwiiw.

Peace.

Tried it at ITG

Impressive piccolo, but not (for me) the perfect piccolo - my personal favourite is the Blackburn. It simply runs rings round everything else I have tried (which is just about everything).

I was seriously impressed with the new Bach piccolo - a definite new contender in the "heavyweight" piccolo division.

Looking forward to the true Eclipse piccolo (made by Eclipse - man, this is going to get confusing) when it finally gets finished.
