Schilke Piccolo problem

Have a little problem I hope someone may be able to help me with.

I have Played my Schilke P-54 for years with good results. Lately my third valve began sticking at odd times. (Like g/a third valve trills)

Had the tecnician look at it. Evidently the third slide itself sometimes shifts slightly when being held. If too strong a grip is used, it restricts the movement of the 3rd valve inside the casing.

He lightly lapped the 3rd valve and it seems fine.

Question.... should I have an anchor brace installed between the third valve slide and the 4th valve casing to stabilize this?

I thought I would insert a small dense cork to anchor it as an experiment.

Any thoughts.....?

oldlou has a spectacular aura aboutoldlou has a spectacular aura about
Third valve slide problem

If the slide is shifting, causing the valve to stick it is an indication of either a flexible,( weak), valve casing or a poor solder joint at the valve casing to the valve tube. I would send it to Shilke for repair or modification by the fine people that made it.

Schilke piccolo

I agree call Schilke direct and speak to Phil Baughman (708) 343-8858 . He will be able to give you exact information on correcting the valve issue on your P5-4. Good Luck .

bandman will become famous soon enough
And I also agree. I had trouble with the valves on my Schilke and I sent the horn to them. It came back working great!
