schilke X4

good morning ladies and gentlemen,

what do you think about a schilke x4? what about the quality of schilke instruments built today? is EUR 1000,- a nice price for such an instrument (in a very good condition). what is your experience with an xl-bore trumpet?

thank you in advance,
joey

Re: schilke X4

Schilke are very nice instruments! Well buildt, and great finnish! The X4 is very free blowing! If you have air pressure enough, this is a great instrument!!
I ended up with the S32, because my high register was very struggeling on the X3 and X4. Needs a LOT of air! You should play test the trumpet in your band, orchestra etc. before you buy..

Re: schilke X4

dear jon petter,

thank you very much...yeah, i tried this horn...and i got really tired after 2 hours. but it is a great feeling to be free. sometimes i think - why a second horn? - the holton is awesome...but i started to look for a little sister or a big brother 'cause it makes fun! i started with a getzen eterna doc severinsen in the 70s - a great horn - but the new eternas are so bad...(zhats why i asked about the actual quality of the schilke horns).

so perhaps i can try the schilke for a week...that would be cool...

best wishes,
joey

I play an X4. After about a month of searching, I got a c. 2003 one for $1650 shipped with a leather gig bag. I would have bought new but there was a waiting period. I have personally never seen one go for less than $1500, but I could be wrong. They just aren't for sale very often. I played an X3 and that seems like a reasonable substitute. I've heard they will make an X5 custom if you ask. New an X4 is around $2200.

Re: schilke X4

Joey, only you can say for sure if it is a horn for you. Schilke is the highest quality and has been for many years.

$1,500 is about EUR 1.000.
