Scodwell Trumpets Hello all. I was wondering if any of you had heard of Scodwell trumpets? I was recently at a Glenn Miller Orchestra concert, and I discussed equipment with the 2nd part guy. He had a beautiful Scodwell with lacquer and awesome trim. He said it played wonderfully. Have any of you ever played one?

Re: Scodwell Trumpets I have one. Tony is a professional trumpeter/photographer who has played in the road bands for both Doc Severinsen and Harry James. He has some great stories to tell. He makes a Bb and a flugelhorn. He used to make a C, but I believe, has discontinued it. Tony's horns are available exclusively through Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center. He only makes a few at a time. He uses parts made to his spec and assembles the horns with a lot of attention to the brace location. They are very good horns. The trumpet is particularly well favored by lead players who like it's excellent projection. The flugelhorn is one of the better models available. pat

When did you see the Miller band? (I was out subbing on the 2nd trumpet/split lead chair for about month in February). I've been playing Scodwell B flat trumpets exclusively since 2000. For me it's the best all round trumpet I've ever found. If you do a search of the trumpet master you'll find some old discussion about Tony's trumpets. For a very good write up and pictures check out Chuck Levin's : Everything in Music : 301-946-8808 . Scodwell USA Trumpets and Flugelhorns can be found under brass instruments. After reading it I'll be happy to answer any questins you might have about the horns. Oh ... and Tony will have four B flat's and two flugelhorns at this years I.T.G.. All the best. | |

Re: Scodwell Trumpets I saw them at the Lincoln Center in Marion, Virginia. You should remember me if you are the right guy. I walked in on you while you were warming up, and you were really nice about it. You see, I got in those balcony seats, and you were warming up behind an "EXIT ONLY" door. I still opened it up because I wanted to meet a guy who played trumpet that well. I believe the piano player opened the door. Anyway, I have been looking into the Scodwells ever since that guy (could be you, MPM) told me about them.

Re: Scodwell Trumpets I'm thinking it was possible that was me. I can't recall the exact date, but I do remember someone coming in a balcony door (up stairs) while warming up. (The Scodwell B flat I had on that tour is gold plated) It's always a pleasure to meet other trumpet players on the road and share whatever I can.

Re: Scodwell Trumpets The Scodwell B flat I had on that tour is gold plated- MPM Oh, sorry, didn't get a good enough look I guess. Yea, I barged right in there like a punk, but I figured it would be a good idea to meet a player of your caliber. I think it was a good decision, but it took a lot of nerve to walk in like that. Thankfully, you didn't really mind. About the Scodwells, they may be a little too expensive for me right now because I have a really good deal on a Strad, but who knows about the future? BTW, that lead guy for the gig was kind of a prick to me. I'm sorry if you know him and like him, I just didn't get a good vibe off of him.

Re: Scodwell Trumpets Hey, That's the way you learn and contact people, no problem. As I said, it's always a pleasure to talk to young guys with interest! Ashley Hall is the present designated lead trumpet player for the Miller Band. He is a little on the quite and introverted side, which can come off as seeming not real friendly to some, but he is a very nice guy, and a fine trumpet player for that band. Hopefully the next time around you two can have a nice talk. Drop me a PM sometime. All the best.

Re: Scodwell Trumpets Yea, he was a great player. Very loud and clear. But he did seem a to be charismatic. He was selling the CDs. Anyway, hope to see you all next year, same place! Last edited by jazz9 : 05-07-2008 at 01:11 PM.
