The searcah...again.

Now that I've found my horn, which by the way, was not a one hit wonder, I've been chosen to persue a horn for another section member of mine. I'm section leader in my high school section and I have a FANTASTIC freshman turmpet player who is playing a piece of UTTER CRAP. The horn is probably 30 or more years old. It was his mother's when she was in band. The second valve doesn't come out, all the slides are stuck and it has red rot and that's not even the half of the horns problems. Anyway, he really is a fantasic kid and player, but he NEEDS a new horn. I use that term "need" sparingly, but he needs one, for sure. But, his family is on a tight budget. My band director has asked me to find him a Bach 37, used, but in good condition, for about one third the price of one new. They really can't afford much, but I CAN'T feasibly find that kind of deal or else I would have bought it already myself. So my question is: Does anyone on these forums have an old Strad 37 or other nice pro model horn, with everything in good condition, that they would sell for about $700 bucks or LESS? I know this is a near impossible task, but I have to try, I feel responsible for him.

I have no faith in E-Bay anymore. I heard to many bad things about it. I would prefer to make the deal through personal exchange.

Get in touch with GZent.

He is re-building VERY good trumpets at a VERY good price.

I just had one of his horns for a week and was amazed at how he has rebuilt these horns.

These vintage horns are, in my opinion, much superior to the mass produced horns available from most manufacturers today.

Check out his website,

You won't go wrong with one of these.

Used Bb

I have a nice used Yamaha 6335S which is Yamaha's standard weight in silver and comes with a case. All the slides work and the valves are tight and smooth.

E-mail me about it.

jimmarybeth@verizon.net

Thanks,
Jim

Double_G:

My recommendation - if he can afford $750 then I can make him a rebuilt horn that will play up to pro horn standards.

If he can't then I think he should buy an Olds Ambassador in the Serial Number range 250,000 to 450,000. It will play as good as any Intermediate horn and many pro horns.

Also, consider a Benge 3X with a Serial Number under 150,000

Or a F. Besson Meha made by Kanstul.

my 2c,

Greg Zent

PS - I forgot to mention that the user 'ez4u2bcool' on ebay always seems to be able to scrounge up Olds trumpets. I've bought from them and they are on the level.

Hi,

There have been a bunch of new Holton 101 trumpets floating around recently, since Holton has decided to close out one of the finest Bach Strad clones ever made.

Holton bought the Mt. Vernon tooling when Selmer moved the line to Elkhart and decided to go with their own new tooling.

Thus, the Holton 101 was patterned after the late MV Bach (with the post-55 taller tuning slide wrap still used to this day).

If you can find a good deal on one of these new Holton 101 trumpets, don't be surprised if it plays every bit as well as the other kid's new Bachs.

Sincerely,

Tom Turner

PS: After posting, I went on ebay and immediately found this brand new one, from a music store with a 100% feedback rating! Silver w/gold too!!!

Don't take this the wrong way, this is not my words, but my band directors.

"I don't want him to waste money on something exotic that might not be around in a few years."

I respect what you do with your horn, I've heard they play incredibly, but my behind would be on the line if I got this kid anything other than a Bach, a Yamaha, or a Schilke. Seriously, I would be disowned. It would not be a pretty situation and I don't want personally want to risk myself in purchasing a horn. My director is a stickler. He didn't want me to buy my Getzen that I use for marching band. He is an elitist when it comes to any horn. From flutes to tubas if it isn't "top quality" in his eyes, he won't have it. That sounds very rude of me to reject your offer, but I can only do so much. I'm under very strict regulations and a price range, which your horns would fall into, but I don't wanna get in trouble.
