![]() | Should I buy a Selmer pic? I am considering buying a selmer(paris) piccolo 1974-s#60093.. I don't play piccolo much except during christmas time and even that is a small amount.. The horn is in good shape and compared to the only other pic. I've played (getzen) I believe it plays somewhat better. Intonation is about the same but the sound is different. Also the selmer has backburn leadpipes.. The asking price is $850...I would like to know more about selmer pics. and some advice and opnions on wether to buy this one or not... Thanks.. |

![]() ![]() | Re: Should I buy a Selmer pic? For what it's worth, I bought my first piccolo approximately 2 years ago. I play a lot in churches, but really only use the piccolo at Christmas and Easter (and the occasional wedding), so our situations are similar. I was on a tight budget but didn't want a crap horn, so my chioces came down to a used Selmer or a used Getzen. I had no prior experience on piccolo, but I was able to test play a few before i bought one. The Selmer was an easier (but tighter) blow than the Getzen I tried, and i liked the brightness of the Selmer over the Getzen (Schilke and a Kanstul long model were my favorites of the high-end). I don't have Blackburn pipes yet, but I have been told that they greatly improve intonnation, so if the one you're looking at already has them you should be in great shape. $850 for a used Selmer picc in good shape with Blackburn leadpipes (usually $100 each) sounds like a very good deal to me. |

![]() | Re: Should I buy a Selmer pic? I'd say, as long is it isn't out of tune and plays and sounds nice, go for it. the price seems reasonable. You might want to try out some others before you buy, so you're 100% sure you'll get what you want. EDIT: I was wondering: what kind of music does one play on a piccolo trumpet during christmas and easter?
