| Re: slide trumpet I guess I'm a bit negative about slide trumpets. They look cool hanging over the fireplace, but really they are a gimmick. Other than party tricks...I have rarely seen one used. Personally I think the money would be better spent upgrading your main instrument.. Bb |

![]() | Re: slide trumpet Jupiter makes an inexpensive one, the 314L "Mini Trombone," Thein and Courtois et al more expensive ones. You can find them generally listed as "Soprano Trombones." The short distance the slide travels allows less slop than a normal Eb Alto or Bb Tenor trombone, and most trombonists play the really high stuff on their Eb's. There isn't a huge market for trumpet players on these instruments. The tromba da tirarsi and English slide trumpets are historical instruments, and there isn't a huge market for these, either, compared to that of the natural trumpet. The soprano trombones are fun to mess around on, but with no valve caps and such are hard to "pimp." If you can find such an instrument cheap, it might be worth it for the "look Ma, no valves!" novelty. Have fun! Last edited by Vulgano Brother : 05-26-2007 at 12:26 AM. |

| Re: slide trumpet Hi, The slide trumpet and the pocket trumpet appear to be "novelty" horns of various quality. They are fun to play, make good conversation pieces, are something to practice on, but are not to replace the full-size versions of their respective horns. I have a pocket trumpet, but not a valve trumpet, but when I show it and play it, people smile. If it helps to bring joy to an event or make people smile, it is probably worth it. Would I spend a fortune on a valve or pocket trumpet? No! Would I spend a small amount for such an instrument? Yes! Blessings! lloyd lmf Last edited by lmf : 05-26-2007 at 11:59 AM. ![]() | Re: slide trumpet Carol Dawn Reinhart started out on a slide trumpet. She was four years old. Her parents started her out on a slide trumpet because a small person can balance the weight of a slide horn easier than the cornet with the weight forward. She switched to cornet when she got a little bigger and the rest is history. I would think a slide trumpet in a Dixie Land band would be a pretty good act. A slide trumpet would fit into the entertainment venues of Renaisance fairs pretty well at least in the United States where authenticity is secondary to making money and entertaining the crowd. |

| Re: slide trumpet I have the Jupiter slide trumpet and the Jupiter pocket trumpet. These are the only Jupiter horns that I have and I would not recommend them as serious every day horns. But, as a novelty, they are great. The play reasonably well and can be had for $300-ish. I sometimes carry the pocket trumpet when I'm traveling on business for a couple of days and don't feel like toting a full size. A friend of mine keeps his in the car to practice while driving. The slide trumpet is just fun. pat |

| Re: slide trumpet i know this is an old post, but i too have been thinking of buying one just for a "fun" jazz solo novelty. something such as this would be fun for both you and the audience. Chuck Findley-Slide trumpet |
