![]() | Stage 1 "Vintage" Review Good Morning, I've had the pleasure of putting NYTC's New Vintage Model through the ringers! This is a traditional style horn that sports a One Piece Gold Brass Bell and Sterling Silver Lead Pipe(#25 I believe), traditional style bracing and mouthpiece receiver. The valves are the same as my California except for the recessed caps! The horn as it stands is Polished Raw Brass and can be plated upon request! The Horn plays wonderfully! The blow is steady and smooth up and down the registers and the intonation seems spot on. The upper register surprisingly lites up rather nicely! Quality again is a staple with all of the horns that Felix designs! This horn is in a price range between $1,300 - $1,500 depending on plating choices! This makes for a price point that gives you a truly excellent value! Good going Felix! Tony G

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I agree, great horn. I've had one for about two weeks now, Felix sent one down for me to check out while I was on a layoff. I thought it was fairly Bach 37-like in sound, but I didn't want to comment about it until I had some other people play it and listen critically. Yesterday my friend Jeff come over with his 37 to compare. He has been going through Bachs like crazy recently trying to find one he liked and this was his latest and greatest acquisition. We did some blind tests and he was astonished by the results. When he was listening and I was playing, he couldn't tell the difference in sound between his Bach 37 and the Stage 1 Vintage, but consistently preferred the Vintage in the blind tests as his favorite because of the evenness of sound between registers and the better intonation. He couldn't believe he would pick a non-Bach horn over his 37. Jeff did his undergrad at Julliard and is super picky about the Bach 37 sound, he fell in love with the Vintage and wouldn't give it back. I'll have to tell Felix the bad news unless Jeff already called him.
