suggestions?

can someone make any suggestions on a good used trumpet I could look for on ebay? I just want something cheap with a professional sound. I dont necessarily want a professional trumpet (I already have a new bach strad), but I want something that is close to or is professional sounding for really cheap, hence ebay. the only other trumpet I have besides the new strad is my old yamaha student, and I would like something more, even just for practice.

so, can anyone name some models that you think sound good and I could get cheap on ebay?

Re: suggestions?

The professional sound is going to come from you not the trumpet.

You might want to look for used Bachs, Yamahas, Getzens, Kanstuls etc.

Bottom line, period.

The sound comes from you.

I can make any trumpet sound good.

You have a Yamaha and a Strad...what more do you want?

I have heard really good things about Olds Ambassadors FWIW. I have never played one but I bet Schwab has.

Re: suggestions?

I have an Ambassador cornet. Great valves, built like a tank, big sound and good intonation and slotting for me, anyway. Comfortable to play.

Re: suggestions?

Ambassadors are really decent horns! I used to have two, an old LA that I sold to a student and an older Fullerton that I put a 43 Bach leadpipe on (compliments of Dave Mickley), that is my beat around horn. It looks terrible but plays great!

If I ever start teaching I'm going to use that in lessons so students don't seen a fancy horn and think that is why I sound better than they do!

You now are playing a Bach Strad (I also) and if you go an purchase a cheap trumpet that doesn"t come fairly close to the sound of your. main horn,it will probably remain in its case.My advise is to try to get to a store like Dillions and try as many Vintage horns you can to see which ones appeal to you. Then you will have an Idea of what to look for.Of the dozen or so horns I tried last month @ Dillions, I was really impressed with a late model french Besson.I never played an Ambassodor but that would be my choice if buying without trying, plenty on E-bay for around $100.Must be the best student horn ever made.Plenty of real player use them as their main horn!!Happy Hunting
