Thein Trumpets

Hi all,

I am a newly registered poster here and wanted some input about a Bb trumpet. I have been playing on a Bach Strad 37 for almost 20 years and it is time for a new horn. I made the switch to Yamaha for my C, but I am not sold on the Bb's (both Chicago or New York). My friend in Austin suggested that I try his Thein horns. To be honest, I absolutely fell in love with them and wanted other opinions. The Bb was probably the best horn that I have ever played to date - no joke. Have any of you played or heard a Thein trumpet? Just for reference, Mathias Hofts plays them. Thanks for your input.

Re: Thein Trumpets

Hi there Mark

I took delivery of a Thein Bb/A picc late last year and couldn't be happier with it or the service provided by the company. If you like the horn, I strongly recommend you go ahead and get in touch with the boys in Bremen.

Cheers

Simon

Hi Mark,

I play a Thein B-Trumpet myself. The MH-One. Here I posted some pictures and a short description:
http://www.trumpetmaster.com/vb/139/...-35526-17.html (What is your main horn?)

I am still more than happy with the trumpet. For me, the best I have ever played. Most of their trumpets are modular. So you have a big choice of leadpipes, tuningslides, bells (I think I tried at least 10 different bells with different sizes and materials), valve caps, etc. Like Simon said, get in contact with Thein in their will be more than happy to give you information how you can try some variations.

Best wishes

Marco

Re: Thein Trumpets

Thanks for the input so far. It has been helpful. I am just a bit hesitant to drop $4800 on a Bb trumpet. Has anyone played a Thein that they DIDN'T like?

Mark,

Try Nate's horns. . . they are tremendous. Oops, you have. That should be all of the information you need other than to know that Thein's customer service can't be better.

Best,
EC (IAA '71)

Re: Thein Trumpets

Yes. They are very expensive. And even more because of the strong euro/weak dollar.

Robin alias "Rowuk" is not a big fan of Thein. But there are many different options of the trumpet models that even he could find one which he likes

The many variations (leadpipes, tuning slides, bells, etc) could also be a problem. If you had the chance to visit their shop in Bremen, I am sure that you would find your dreamhorn. But it´s not possible to ship all of this stuff to the US. But the Thein brothers have more than 30 years of experience in trumpets, so if you tell them what you are looking for, they will probably send you enough parts.

All I can say is give them a call or e-mail and they (probably Max) will give you a reply of what is possible.

Marco

PS: Sorry for my English. And I am not paid or get any discount by Thein (nobody gets any discount there, except Matthias Höfs ) because of my "advertisement" here. I am just a VERY satisfied consumer never who never regretted the investment

Thein Brothers are simply the best.
No one could be wrong with their trumpets.

I am not a "fan" of the Thein brothers, but that doesn't make their horns "undesirable". They have been traditionally the most expensive German horns that you can buy. As I have said in other posts, money is NEVER the issue.
Many players whose opinion that I respect very much enjoy the Höfs model (including Matthias Höfs himself). Like any other horn, you need to get it on your face before forming an opinion. I have only played one of the Höfs models a couple of years ago at the Frankfurt music fair. It played well enough, but that is not an intimate situation where you can really get to know the horn. I have played several of their rotary horns and never had one that I refused to give back to the owner........ Actually Marco doesn't live too far away from me, maybe we should just get together and compare notes...........
