Trip to WWBW

Well went to WWBW today to play test a group of horns to help choose a new one for me. Well......

No Kanstul Chicago 1000 -- listed as in stock on web
No Kanstul Chicago 1001 -- listed as in stock on web
No Bach 180XL -- listed as in stock on web
No Bach LR180 -- listed as in stock on web
No Sonare 800 -- listed as in stock on web
No Sonare 900 -- listed as in stock on web

Got to play a Stomvi Elite 330 -- Enhh it's OK not worth replacing my current horn.
Got to play a Shew 8310Z -- Not a section horn but WOW!!!

They actually found they had 7 Kanstul CHI1001 trumpets as well as the other listed above in their warehouse which is now in Kansas City!!!! Which after a 2 hour drive several tolls stopping for breakfast with 4 kids in the car is very upsetting. Watched to make sure it was all in stock for weeks to make sure I could play them. Apparently after getting together ith Giardinelli, music 123 etc... They no longer have a South Bend warehouse so they can no longer get horns out for you to play.

So 5 hours later I got to try 2 horns from a laundry list and the Shew was just to play it to see what it was all about. Never really interested but since I had nothing else to play why not.

So if you are going to visit them to play a horn call in advance to find out what is in stock!!!!

Re: Trip to WWBW

TO be honest I figured that their "Instock" on their online store had nothing to do with their brick and mortar store simply because so many places online donot have real store fronts and "instock" just means it is in their warehouse sytem read for you to order it etc.....That is too bad well at least now anyone planing to dothe same will know to call ahead first.

Re: Trip to WWBW

It used to mean they would call the warehouse and have them brought across the street so you could try all of what they had. No longer with the warehouse in KC.

Kids did not care too much the just fussed around a bit and wanted to leave right away but I got to put up with it all for not!!! Boooo!

Nope NO NEW HORN!!!!

Are you going to order a horn online, or go back and try them? Or go to another place? Well, when you get a new horn, tell us how it is...

Thanks for letting us know about WwBW situation. Last time I was in there about 5 yrs ago, they did have the warehouse there, I believe. Similar trend of many major retailer's on line stock, not being in the brick and mortar store, unless specifially cited as such.

Re: Trip to WWBW

Last 30 years apparently they had the warehouse either in house or just across the street. So if it was in stock you might have to wait about an hour but they would pull like 6-7 horns and let you have at it. That was fun. Unless the get some real local stock that will no longer happen.

They are getting a pair of Chicago 1001 horns sent in from the warehouse for me to try "HOPEFULLY" next weekend so I will probably go back and at least try them.

Re: Trip to WWBW

Sorry about your experience. If you're shopping on line for one, some have seven days return/ no questions. You pay return shipping.

Now, any time you're going away on vacation............. don't forget to pack your mouthpiece!
Some cities are packed full of music stores, one right next to another. Near colleges that major music is your best bet.

A trumpet. What a great souvenir.

Re: Trip to WWBW

FYI:

WWBW was bought by MusiciansFriend/ Guitar Center a few years ago, who then bought up Music123. All four are now owned by Bain Capital, who have consolidated the corresponding warehouses into the main MusiciansFriend Kansas City one. Orders from any of those four websites are handled through the same warehouse.

P.S. On a related note, I ordered a Kanstul 991 (Mariachi) from WWBW a couple months ago (X-mas gift from the wife & my first new horn in ~20 years) & the idiots in the warehouse managed to pack it so poorly that I received not one, but TWO damaged ones. Luckily, the third one arrived unscathed and plays like a dream, but I will think twice about ordering any large-ticket items from them in the foreseeable future.

That sucks!!!!

I'm lucky that Dillon's still has their horn wall with lots of toys to try. After reading your story i think I'll make sure to call before I go next time...just in case.
