| Trumpet Review: Romeo Adaci Referenz Bb For those interested, I just received a new Romeo Adaci Referenz that I purchased from Felix at NY Trumpet Company: http://www.newyorktrumpetcompany.com/horns.htm This Bb trumpet is finished in satin gold and features a .465 bore. I have happily played on a Getzen Eterna since 1976... through high school, college and most of my life. The Eterna is a ML (.460) bore, so I knew this would sound and feel different. I told Felix what I had in mind and he recommended 3 trumpets. I didn't try any of them, but bought the Romeo hoping that I would be pleased... I am soooo pleasantly pleased with this trumpet that I'm almost stunned silly. The dynamic range of this larger bore is very impressive without any intonation issues. The tone is dark but not muddy. Slotting is better than anything else I've ever played and there are no 'funny' notes with wild tuning or notes that take extra effort or don't 'pop' just right. Everything is really nice. The Referenz also features quick 'speed lock' valve caps that only take 3 half turns to open, which will make quick oilings a breeze. The tuning slide bracing is a little different than the 2-tone horn featured on the NYTC website (see my Avatar picture on the side). The finish is even and beautiful. Fit is also nicely done. I have no concerns or complaints. Just wanted to let you know that this is a horn worth your attention if you want big-time sound and a uniquely styled horn that isn't 'over-the-top' in looks. If you want an 'over-the-top' look, then check out the other Romeo Adaci trumpets... A few other things that I've noticed: - the low and mid range are absoultely open and easy to play. It actually plays easier than my old horn. - No pinching or thinning in my upper register, which isn't that high, but I played many Es and Fs and all were rock solid. - I feel like I have more tonal flexibility. Legato tounging produced a wonderful warm sound with a soft attack that makes me feel like junior Maurice Andre. But when I want more brilliance it seems like I just think it and it happens. Really, you just sharpen your attack and it really brightens up. My wife noticed the difference in sound right away (compared to the Eterna) and mentioned it being 'bigger', 'fuller', and 'a more powerful voice'. One additional sound item: I tried the Turbo-Bore mouthpiece (came with the horn) and it made the overall sound much darker. Could be my new late-night mouthpiece! I know I'm experiencing new trumpet euphoria ... and I hope I stay here! Best regards, |
