Trumpets at This Years ITG

It would be nice to hear from someone who attended this years ITG in Canada, who had an opportunity to play a good number of the horns that were there, and what they thought of them.

Thanks.

Just found this on another website ... hmmm ... it would seem there's a thought process across the board:
----------
ITG will not do the following-
1. Look for advice outside their own structure.
2. Since they won't, they won't hold any conferences in large metro areas like L.A.
3. Since number 1 is in force, they don't understand the semi-pro or kids not in college...
4. Because of 3 they won't do anything to encourage those players to join ITG.
5. They also won't do any serious internet video access, cutting off a fine opportunity to spread trumpet education.
6. They will, because number 1 is true, continue to leave out interesting new players and thinkers outside their box.
7. They will continue to do what they've always done.....and....
8. Fewer students/new members will join....
9. Most of those players will gather more of their info from the internet....kids are a good example of this.
10. Internet sites that offer video/lessons/interaction/satisfaction....will become more important. Remember, school programs are very slowly going the way of.....Shop, Home Ec......

---------------
I love it! hahahaha!!!

That should be submitted to the Dave Letterman Top 10 List!!!!

Re: Trumpets at This Years ITG

You remind me of Monette enthusiasts.

The hosting of conferences has no bearing on the location. If you meet the criteria on the web site you will probably get the conference.

Hosting a conference is a big deal and not many apply for the job. There is no reason you can't host a conference in L.A. Ask Disney Land to host it. Just meet the criteria.

The conference is held as near to the end of school years as possible. When college trumpet sections attend to perform at preludes they have to arrange for out of dorm housing so they can practice at their own university before traveling to the conference.

This year was June 1 to 6 and more than a few high school educators were there. I think Eastern high schools run into June with their school years. Most of the U.S. is through with high school by June 1st.
Sydney, Australia in 2010 will be held in July.
China is looking to host in 2015.

Feel free to run for the Board of Directors if you want to make changes. Any member can run.

As for trumpets at the conference were Hub Van Laar, Yamaha, Bach, Schilke, Conn, Eclipse, Edwards, Jupiteer, Sonare, Spencer, Stomvi, check the web site or Jen's web site.

Re: Trumpets at This Years ITG

I have been a member of the ITG since it's inception. My college professor Dr. Gordon Mathie was one of ITG's founders and made his studio sign up. Being a middle school band director, I could never get to a conference because our concert season would always coincide with them. Now that they have moved to early June, I was finally able to go to the one in Amherst Mass. last year on my distrist's dime(well, part of their dime!). It was a very nice time, and it was nice to see a bunch of trumpet geeks from around the world!

I am thinking that Gordon was at this years conference. Didn't he participate in the comeback player lecture. Who was that tall old man that had a sense of humor?

Dr. Mathie is definately a tall man with a sense of humor! Also, if you look up gentleman in the dictionary, his picture is there.
