![]() | Trying to get a price on a trumpet? My girlfriend wants to sell her trumpet...she (or her parents) bought a 601 King trumpet (if that's a model) for $450, it's been played I think it's goldplated, definitely not silver in color. She bought it in 2006, or thinks it's from 2006. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! I know very little about trumpets, thought I'd ask some professionals. Thanks, Justin |

![]() ![]() | Re: Trying to get a price on a trumpet? I'll take a stab here. I am not an expert on the King 601 (yes, it is the model designation) but it it was bought new for $450 that makes it a student trumpet. In today's market, used student trumpets drop in value a lot. So, I'd guess it worth less than half of what she paid - perhaps $150-$200 if it is still in good condition. By the way, the trumpet is made of brass which has been polished to a high lustre and then coated with clearcoat urethane or lacquer or something else (depending on what the factory uses) which give it the "gold" tone. There is really no gold in it. Even the silver ones are brass but plated with a very thin layer of sliver. If your girlfriend wants to sell it, she can find the true value and sell it in one step. That is, put it on ebay. There are a LOT of trumpet players who watch ebay. Every trumpet gets a thorough looking over there. Here are a couple of hints to help with the sale: (1) Have good, clear photos and do them with the trumpet out of the case and show both sides. Do closeups, particularly of areas where there are any flaws. Some people try to hide the flaws but when the buyer receives it and sees what was hidden, they complain to ebay or give negative feedback - not cool! (2) Remove the valve pistons and photograph the condition of the pistons. Buyers want to know if the pistons are worn. (3) Start the bidding at $9.99 and DO NOT put a reserve on the trumpet! People will not bid on items that have a reserve. Also, there is no need to put a reserve on it unless she does not really want to sell it. It will sell at whatever its true value is as long as the photos and the description are clear. (4) Show a photo of the case but only 1 or 2. People are buying the trumpet but the case is a valuable item and it helps if the case is in really good condition and not musty or smoky smelling. So, this is really the answer to the question of how to sell it and what it is worth. Good luck.

![]() | Re: Trying to get a price on a trumpet? A used brass 601 Tempo or 601 Tempo II usually sells for $10.00 to $150.00 on eBay. It is hard to believe that they could sell used for more than a new one does. A new one is on eBay now for $319.00. A silver special model would sell for a little more. I bought a couple to give to needy students. I bought one for $37.50 and the other for $55.00. about a year ago. One in great condition may go for $100.00 to $150.00. The ComeBackKid was pretty much right on about these horns. His recommendations about posting the ad and pictures is also right on. The better you describe it and the more clear pictures you post the better your chances of getting more for the horn are. Good Luck !!!
