Smile Vincent Bach Stradivarius or NY Trumpet Company's Phaeton?

Hello,
I was just wondering which trumpet is better: Bach Stradivarius or New York Trumpet Company's Phaeton? I would also appreciate a link to where I buy the instrument.

NOTE: If you will not answer what I ask, do not bother even answering, please.

No one can tell you which horn is better. Only YOU know what you are looking for in a horn, and only playing the horn can really tell you if it is what you want.

That's true... very different horns.
Consistency is not the best for the Bach trumpets, so you should try a lot before decide which concrete horn to buy.
Also, I've seen to much Bach Strad over serial 600.000 and there are TENTHS of problems just after purchase...
Take care.

With all respect to what others have seen, I personally haven't seen this. I've played about a dozen pre- and post-strike Bachs over the past few months, and found them comparable to the other horns I've tried.

Of course, this is limited to my perspective. But I would approach the issue of consistency with an open mind. And, as BrassOnLine suggested, if at all possible, you should always try before you buy.

You're kidding, right? Look kid, this is an open forum where great discussions often develop from back and forth commentary between posters, so attempting to limit the discussion is a bit silly. In my opinion your "NOTE" is very rude and off-putting. You'll get MUCH better results by just posting your question and jumping in the discussion that follows.

OK, I'll get off my soap-box and give you a more direct answer.

First, asking which is "better" is silly. At best all you will get is personal opinions from those who have played both. At worst you'll get opinions from people (presumably like you) who haven't played either but have readthings on the net.

I've played a bit on both, so in my (hack) opinion, the base-model Phaeton horns look cool and seem well-constructed, but are not pro-level horns. They have a decent blow up to high C, but intonation and the openness of the blow start to supffer there. In the staff I found them a bit tight, but still made a nice sound. I play-tested one for about an hour in July and played a friends recently during a 2 hour community band rehearsal. My impression was consistent both times.

I've played a Bach Strad 37 for just over 20 years and I find it a very versitile horn. I've played MANY different settings (church jobs, big band, college bands, pit orchestras, quintets, etc.) and I've never been disappointed. Great horn. I guess I got a "good" one.

That said, I'm currently saving for a custom horn, so the Bach Strad isn't "perfect" or "the best", but in a head to head competition I would pick it over the Phaeton 10 times out of 10.

Re: Vincent Bach Stradivarius or NY Trumpet Company's Phaeton?

Shazib,
I agree with the premise that you asked a STUPID question. It is also not exactly smart to leave out the other pro NYTC horns, Getzen, Kanstul, Selmer, Holton, Conn, B&S, Stomvi and all of the rest that are well deserved in this category.

You of course can be closed minded, the problem for this attitude on the internet, is that you get called for it. That you will have to live with too.

If you don't know the difference between the two horns, then you have some homework to do. If you do, then you deserve the hit that you are getting for trying to cause trouble!

I have only played 2 Phaeton instruments, both in decorator colors. They were both superlative, just like the other brands that I mentioned.

It seems as though every day I visit the board there is another horn I am not familiar with. What is this Phaeton? I don't see any on eBay.

Here's a link from NYTC that might be helpful.
