)Thanks!

It only actually means that ill be happy to answer any questions that i can, and of course we have many fine repairers and makers around the place to throw their 2 cents in.

So i welcome everyone with repair experience to help out answering some of the questions if and when they can. (i dont know it all by any means!!)

Best Wishes

Leigh (reading up on repairing right now! )

I was wondering where to look for tools and books for brass repair? Are there any sites I could try? I'm trying to start my own collection of repair tools and learn more about brass working. Thanks!

Hi William

Ferrees have always been a great place to get repair tools, and the guy's there are very helpful.(In Michigan i think)
Simply describe the type of job you need a tool for and they will probably give you a choice of several different tools that will do the job.

The price and quality is good across the range of tools.

There are others i use of course but they are over this side of the pond, Bohm's (in Germany) for instance make wonderful tooling especially bell shape mandrels and mouthpipe mandrels.

Get to Ferree's site at.......

www.ferreestools.com

Hope this helped a little

If you need any further help or advise on tools then feel free to ask!

Regards

Leigh

Wow, thanks Leigh - now I just need a vintage horn to overhaul

Just out of interest - do you prefer making new trumpets, or doing up old ones?

Hi Jack

To be honest both can be just as great as with repairs you are bringing something back to life as such, and with the new horns you are creating something that will hopefully give the owner a lot of pleasure.

So its both!

Nice to hear from you again Jack

Regards

Leigh

Your horns definitely will please the owners! I'm still saving up, so expect me to be knocking on your door before too long.

By the way, did you know Jay Phelps is here at Trinity? I had a room next to him the other day, and he's sounding great on his eclipse.

Cheers,

Jack.

Yeah I wondered when you would bump into him!

He is a great young player, say hi to him for me.

When you guy's get some time you should come to the workshop to check out the Flugels.

Give me a call sometime and let me know how you are getting on at Trinity.

Best Wishes

Leigh
