![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm selling a couple of trumpets for a friend. They are both gold plated and have not been played in a couple of years. There are some brown marks on the gold plate. I'm not sure if they will come out or not. What product works best on gold plating? Here is a bad pic taken with my camera phone. Notice the brown spots on the leadpipe ![]() Last edited by MJ; 11-04-2006 at 10:55 PM. |

![]() | I use a gold polishing cloth for general maintenance; I think it is the same as a silver polishing cloth (but don't mix the two)- check the packaging when you get one for sure. That may be a bit more than the cloths can handle though. |

| Fortissimo User | I've heard that some folks have had relative good luck removing tarnish with Tarni Shield on gold. Personally I wash the horn about every 4 months or so in dishwashing detergent and then give it a "hot rinse" and air dry then follow up with a buffing using a microfiber cloth. Never had it sit long enough to tarnish. Since gold is relatively more inert than silver I wouldn't think that tarnishield could hurt a lot; I would be very careful, however, using too much "elbow grease" no matter WHAT kind of cleaner or cleaning cloth I were using. Gold plating is significantly softer (and thinner) than silver plate. |

![]() | I put my Eclipse with brushed gold into the acid bath last summer. (I asked Leigh first) It came out with some nasty brown stains. Nothing I used took them off. Then a chemist on TPIN recommended Tarn-ex. He said not to leave it on long and wash it off thoroughly. It worked great for my horn.
