| Fortissimo User | That one, or one identical, came up on TH a few weeks back. Other than the fact that it is a "collector's edition" I suspect there isn't much to cause it to be valued so much more (2X minimum) than a stock B1. After all, that's one of the selling features of Schilke... they are consistently good and have been (with the exception of some of those produced during the days of Yamaha's association) since Day #1. It's gold plated (what does that cost as a price adder on a new horn?) and it's engraved (what does that cost for the type of work you see there?) and it's in a special case (probably a different colour of leather and velour?) and it's got a "stamped" mouthpiece. When you add it all up you could likely duplicate it for around (or maybe a bit more than) $3,000 c/w the accessories listed. I'd buy a stock B1. Wait a minute! I DID buy a stock B1. |

![]() | I have a a stable of pretty nice horns with my Harrelson being the best horn I've ever played (my own or someone elses). I have spent a pretty good amount of money to get horns that I love, but I really need to do something about my 30XXX Bach Strad Bb. It's just not the horn it used to be -- I tease about using up all the good notes. So I'm looking for that dream horn and keep coming across all these $3K and $4K horns that I see nothing special about. Someday, when I'm really feeling generous to myself, I'm going to buy that dream Eclipse. I guess I just need to stop looking and stop driving myself crazy. I know what I want, I just can't afford it right now!
