| What would be best for..... Hi all, Im totally new to trumpets (any brass instrument to be honest), but im finally ready to do something I have always wanted to. I am mostly interested in Punk and Ska music, but love the blues as well. Would the punk/ska affect the type of trumpet to buy or accesories? What would people recommend, keeping in mind the music type, given a budget of about £200 (maybe up to £300 if it was worth it ) Cheers all. |

Fingers: As far as sound goes. It doesn't have as much to do with the instrument as it does the sound you hear in your head. Keep listening to the guys/girls you wanna sound like, LEARN the instrument, and everything will eventually come together. It's going to take time and patience and a lot of basics before you can bust out those Streetlight licks; but if it's something you're really into, by all means go for it. Buy yourself a reasonably good student horn. You could probably pick up a nice Olds Ambassador on ebay. It's well within your budget and I'd say it's worth it :) | |

It's a Holton MF TS506, it's a lighter/brighter sound that, in my opinion, blends perfectly with the rest of the band. Now that Selmer/Bach bought Holton, I'm not exactly sure what the model number would be, I bought it new about 6 years ago for $700 dollars, so I'm guessing you could find one for a good price on eBay. |

Get a teacher, have them help with the horn, get your playing together and THEN you can start worrying about what horn will fit the bill. The first couple of years are BASICS and any GOOD horn will do! |
