| What would you suggest for under $5000? This will be fun. A very serious high school trumpet player comes to you and asks you to reccomend a horn for all around use that he/she can play in high school, college, and then in adult community bands. This is it -- the last horn they will ever buy. They want one horn that will serve all purposes for a non-professional player. The price limit is $5000 US dollars, but they want the best horn for the money so if you can suggest a horn for less than the $5000 so much the better for them. What 5 trumpets do you suggest they consider? If you are brave, tell us why you chose those 5 instruments. |

| That's a hard thing to chose. 5000 is a lot, so i'm going with A large bore strad with rev. lead pipe. Then send it off to harrelson for striping to raw brass and a 907 mod. Strad- 2500 to 3000 Striped to raw brass- 200 907 mod-1500 Then save up a little more and get it pladed if need be. |

| Fortissimo User | I'd tell him to get 'something' that'll at least get him through college and save the rest of the money. If he isn't going to be a music major then he'll have to have time to set up his "day job" and then he will undoubtedly join the Trumpetmaster forum, hear about all these wonderful, custom brands, and then go out and buy what he REALLY thinks he wants. To believe that someone will buy a horn in H.S. and stay with it for the rest of his life is a bit..... farfetched? |

My 5 horns, remembering that they are all stock horns (no modifications): 1) Eclipse MR 2) Eclipse MY 3) Lawler Model T 4) Harrelson Muse 5) I have about 10 horns that I would love to put on as number 10. The funny thing is that for my personal horn I would not buy any of those 5. I really want my next horn to be either an Eclipse LC or a Harrelson Nouveau. | |

| I'm going to stay away from high end horns and list only ones that I think that I, as a future band director, could sell parents on. In a particular order: 1. Getzen 900S Eterna -- Great sound, blends with other horns, great price value, the valves! 2. Yamaha Xeno -- Comparable to the "Bach" sound, better quality for the price than the Bach. 3. Schilke S32 -- Again, another horn in the thicker sound vein. You can't beat the quality of the Schilkes; and, if taken care of, will last in value. Has more resistance than the comparable B-model (in terms of bore), so I think a HS player would handle that nicely. 4. Gezen 3050 -- Great Getzen valves, solid build quality, at home in a variety of situations, competitive price. 5. Kanstul 1500B -- An alternative for those who desire to have as close to a Bach sound without a Bach. Quality build. You'll notice that, except for one, I've stayed away from large companies. Other than the playability of the Yamaha, you know that it will always be a quality product. Other than that, I picked American companies that provide a great product and great support; and, I tried to pick horns that are in the middle of sound concept, a horn that would be accepted in any group. |
