What is your main piccolo?

To follow the main horn poll...As some of us have more tha one picc, I thought that it may be interesting to find out which are the most popular...My favoutrites for the moment are my Spada and the Rotary Scherzer....I played also the french besson, the famous schilke, a rotary lechner with up-right action valves, the 70s selmer (Maurice Andre), the newer selmer which I openly dislike, Stomvi Elite, Schagerl Eclipse...I think that these are about all I tested or played for longer periods....I may have tested another horn at Spada Music, but may have fogotten the name.
The software gives me only 10 answer options, so if your horn is missing, is not necessarilly because I have not heard of it, or think she's unworthy of mentioning, but because the options are limited. If you need to precise a model, please do by replying to this post.

Re: What is your main piccolo?

My own design 3 rotary valve with a red brass bell from the early 60s. The valves are carbon fiber and have ball bearings so they are essentially maintenance free! Pictured in my avatar.
Not as loud or bright as conventional piccs. Blends very well with the human voice. Great chamber instrument. Not suitable for the heavy symphonic things.

Re: What is your main piccolo?

I ordered a Hub van Laar piccolo. This one is closer (in feel) to my Bb trumpet due to the somewhat bigger boresize, so for me it's easier to get used to.

Robin,

Would you post a closer pics of your beast? I remember to have seen some pics of the production process of your horn, but would like to see what was the final result Will be very curious to see once more those valves...

Re: What is your main piccolo?

Yamaha 9830 the Schilke clone. At the time, I bought it it was a lot less $ then the Schilke. These days I think I would buy the P5-4 with the Butler/ Gyer.

Re: What is your main piccolo?

I have a P5-4, but I really like the Scherzers. Unfortunately there are too many memories to sell my Schilke, even if it isn't the best horn I've ever played...
