Yamaha 6445H C - Opinions?

Morning all,

I made a post to the Horns thread awhile back about problems I've been having with my "local" music store in regards to acquiring a C.

To make a long story short, the issues continue. I've recently located a used Yamaha 6445H C. Are these comparable in quality to the new Xenos? Any pros and cons between the two?

Basically, I'm wondering if the intonation/build quality is on par with other similarly priced Cs on the market. If it is, I think I’m going to end my frustration and pick it up, and save some bucks in the process.

Cheers,

Andy

Hobo,
Xenos are unique creatures! Yamaha has passed the sonic copying stage and produces a line that no other brand sounds like.
I believe the Xeno line is NOT designed for someone wanting a "standard" trumpet sound. It has a completely different texture, more brilliant. The 6XXX are the "standard" orchestral sounding instruments and represent a tremendous value - even new. If the valves are still pretty tight and it plays ok, there is NO reason not to consider a used Yamaha! I have never had a Yamaha with intonation problems - EVER. Maybe I was always using the right mouthpieces?

I prefer the 6000 series trumpets to the 8000 series Xeno trumpets. But then I prefer the 9000 Xeno Artist to the 6000, so take your pic. The 6000 to me have a nice core and nice sound, while the Xeno feels a little light (sound wise) and lacking. As rowuk said, intonation and bulid should be quite good, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If you like the way it plays, go for it.

When they first came out, I felt that the Xeno was a step backwards from the Mark-II models. I liked the Mark II very much. Though I did recently try a stock Xeno Bb that I thought was pretty good.

I agree with cornetguy.

I really liked the Yamaha 6000 series as well. The zenos replaced the mark II. These trumpets were very much modeled after Bachs. the zeno is a different trumpet. The yahama heavy weight mark II series, is the same, or very close to the weight of a standard weight Bach.

Give it try. if you like it, you should be able to get a good deal.

It's a good horn and relatively inexpensive since Yamaha has come out with many newer models that are supposed to be "improvements". The newer Yamaha's are certainly different but I'm not sure that they're any better. It's a good, inexpensive, C trumpet. Well worth considering.

Re: Yamaha 6445H C - Opinions?

Hi friends...

I'm a proud owner of a used YTR 6445 HG Mark II series, since a couple of weeks...and I can tell you...it's fantastic...a real pretty c-trpt. / very good intonation and response, an accurate slotting and a very solid quality of craftmenship....so, what are you exspecting more ???
I prefere it at any time, comparing it e.g. with the nowadays Strads and Xenos....

...have a good time !!!

..all the best from Germany !!!
