![]() | Yamaha 8310Z Well, I wasn't completely satisfied with my Eastman 520GS, so I traded up to a new Yamaha 8310Z. I was really surprised at how wonderful this particular trumpet felt...my friends have all commented that my sound is almost too "french horn"-like and while I still sound like "me" it's much easier to get some edge into it while still maintaining the warmth and fullness that I prefer. I know it's not billed as a classical player's horn, but I was curious how many of you out there play on one of these for concert band and orchestra? |

![]() | Re: Yamaha 8310Z I know a person who plays a Shew for classical playing, that and a Bach C. However, it matches the way she plays very, very well, so I think it is more dependent on the player. Many orchestral players used to use smaller-bored horns, but now, compared to large bore horns, it is easy for a smaller horn to sound less full or rotund than those. Enjoy your horn!

![]() | Re: Yamaha 8310Z When looking for my new horn (and old horn safari) that was the most interesting horn besides my Kanstul I played. Very neat horn. If it fits your sound concept you can really do some neat stuff with it.

![]() | Re: Yamaha 8310Z I am totally enjoying this horn. :) It's just amazing how an instrument with such slick and effortless valves makes me look forward to practicing! I also tried a Xeno and an intermediate model Yamaha as well, and both were excellent although I ended up liking the Z the most. I made the switch to Yamaha on my primary instruments last year (CSG Bb and A Clarinets for orchestra/chamber music and a 82Z Alto Sax for concert band and combos), and I have to say I'm equally impressed with the quality of construction of this trumpet as I am with their offerings in the woodwind world (which are just awesome). |
