Yamaha 8310Z plating question

I'm going to buy a Yamaha 8310Z, but I am curious as to what everyone's opinions are on the plating. I would normally lean toward silver plating, but I know Bobby Shew himself plays on a lacquer and I heard that he wishes they didn't even offer it with silver plating. Is the silver plating really that bad, or does Bobby just prefer the lacquer for his personal use? I play all kinds of music: solo, symphonic, and jazz (often lead). Would it even make a significant difference what the finish is if I use the right mouthpiece? Some advice please!

Thanks,

Joey

Re: Yamaha 8310Z plating question

It makes very little difference.

If you consider the marketing effects, a bit of controversy can help the sales of any product. We will never know if Mr. Shew really said that, really thinks that or if the marketing people enjoy that. I like the looks and durability of silver plate. That makes it a good choice for ME!

Re: Yamaha 8310Z plating question

Okay, thanks. I think I will get the silver plated version. I like the looks of it too, plus most of the rest of the trumpeters in my section have silver plated instruments, so I won't stand out quite as much (people can focus more on the music).
